Suntec City is packed with fast food concepts and hearty eateries, but sometimes all you need is a comforting bowl of soup. The Soup Expert is a Cantonese soup restaurant that puts an unexpected twist on tradition by serving its soups in teapots!
Cantonese-Style Soups
The brand hails from Shanghai, having sold over 7 million teapots of soup.
Every soup is brewed for 4 hours, filled with premium ingredients and herbs designed for different health benefits, including energy and vitality.
The Soup Expert Menu
There are eight soup options, ranging from Chinese Dates Fig Root Chicken ($9.90) to their signature Abalone Ginseng ($14.90).
The soups came out clear, rich and incredibly flavourful, infused with the taste of herbs but none of the overbearing medicinal aftertaste.
This was especially the case for the Bitter Gourd Pork Ribs ($12.90). There was no bitter taste at all!
Even as someone who hasn’t acquired the taste for bittergourd, this soup was surprisingly easy to enjoy.
Our favourite was the Sea Coconut Black Chicken ($12.90) with a pleasant coconut fragrance that made it moreish.
These are nourishing, leaving a warm feeling in the body after every sip. If you enjoy something more robust, the American Ginseng Duck ($12.90) and Black Garlic Beef Bone ($12.90) are good options.
The other two flavours are Daylily Trotters ($10.90) with a collagen-rich soup and Wild Mushroom Bamboo Fungus ($12.90) for hydration and restoration.
They are served in ergonomic teapots and dainty teacups, which made for a fun drinking experience!
Every pot also includes sizeable chunks of meat that you can enjoy with rice, making it a good meal on its own.
Signature Dishes & More
They offer an extensive menu of cold dishes and hot dishes to complete your meal. The Crispy Juicy Boneless Fish ($11.90) was a standout for us, with a crunchy coating and appetising tangy dressing.
They also have interesting dishes like a spicy Dry Bull Frog with Shrimp ($25.90), tossed in an addictive mala sauce.
Something unique is the Cooker-Baked Dang Gui Chicken ($36.90/Whole) served in an actual rice cooker!
The meat was tender and sweet but not overly herbaceous, making this a good dish for all ages.

We also tried the Xian Miao Roast Chicken ($36.90/Whole). It had a perfectly crisp skin and juicy meat, but it was a tad salty for our taste.
For carbs, the Lobster Fried Rice ($48.90) is a good choice. We liked the bite from the grains and lobster, although we wished for a deeper flavour.
