Tucked in the side corner of Thomson Plaza is 42Pasta, a humble new pasta restaurant specialising in fresh, handmade pasta!
We heard glowing reviews from a colleague who visited previously and had to try it for ourselves.
Watching Fresh Pasta Being Made
The storefront is simple and clean, with an open counter where you can watch chef-owner Z and his team prepare the pasta fresh!
It’s light colour palette makes it cosy and inviting.
Z has an interesting background. He’s a former physics lecturer turned pasta maker and chef, focused on bringing quality noodles to his patrons!
A unique point of their pasta is the amazing variety of shapes.
They offer many traditional Italian shapes you don’t see in Singapore, like garganelli (similar to penne) and foglie di ulivo, shaped like olive leaves.
Chef Z makes everything by hand and uses traditional tools to shape the pasta. Props for the dedication!
42Pasta Menu
The menu is slim but focused. The signature dish is the Pasta of the Day ($15), which changes daily! Check out their Instagram page for the latest updates.
They offer two appetizers: Bruschetta ($2/piece) and a Cheese & Ham Platter ($12). If the pasta isn’t enough, there’s the Roasted Pork with Waldorf Salad ($12/$18).
Pasta Of The Day
The Pasta Of The Day when we visited was Potato Ravioli. We saw the ravioli being made, from the filling to the cutting!
Every step was intricate, with a lot of time put into the process.
The ravioli was served in a simple tomato sauce with a garnish of olive oil and parmesan cheese.
We found the skin slightly thicker than we would have liked, though it still retained a firm bite and chew. The potato filling was a bit dry and we feel it might be better with a richer, tender filling!
A disclaimer that we were not able to enjoy the pasta while hot, which might have affected the experience.
Despite this, it makes us eager to try their other offerings. We will return to sample other menu items while fresh!
Previous selections include a duck ragu pappardelle and sorpresine in a roasted pepper sauce; which all sound delicious.
Roasted Pork with Waldorf Salad
The Roasted Pork with Waldorf Salad impressed us! The pork had a crunchy crackling and well-seasoned juicy meat, pairing well with the side of creamy Waldorf salad.
Basque Cheesecake
The Basque Cheesecake ($6) was a simple end to the meal. It was creamy with a notable honey fragrance that added a good amount of sweetness.
