Sake-lovers, rejoice – IPPUDO is hosting their Monthly Sake Tasting Day promotions! You might only know IPPUDO for their famous ramen, but they also offer some of the finest Japanese sakes for your tasting.
IPPUDO Japanese Sake Pairing
On the first 4 Wednesdays of every month, IPPUDO holds their Monthly Sake Tasting Day to feature an exclusive lineup of sakes. The event is hosted at a different IPPUDO outlet each day at one of their 11 outlets islandwide including Clarke Quay, Shaw Centre and Westgate.
You can try three sakes from six options ranging from different regions of Japan. They are served on a placemat with details of the sake including tasting notes and their origin. Some of these sakes are not for sale in-store so you can only catch them now!
All the sakes were easy to drink yet had a distinct flavour individually. Our picks are the Sorah Japanese Premium Sparkling Sake which was light and had a subtle flavour of dried apple, making it good for those new to sake.
The Kamonishiki Nifudasake Junmai Daiginjo Geppaku is a classic sake with a crisp finish plus a pleasing floral scent, while the Choyo Musubi Junmai Goriki 60 is a stronger, full-bodied sake with unique umami.
The sake is also paired with a seasonal side dish that changes monthly. This month’s side dish was a Yamakake Hon Maguro ($32 with the sake), or bluefin tuna, flown straight from Miyagi Japan. The generous serving of Maguro came with grated Japanese yam, wasabi and soy sauce.
The texture of the yam might be an acquired taste, but the tuna was sweet, fresh and had a pleasant clean flavour that paired perfectly with the sweetness from the sake. The regular IPPUDO ramen menu is also available to order for something more substantial!
Premium Japanese Sakes
If you’re a sake enthusiast, IPPUDO’s Monthly Sake Tasting Day is up your alley! The sake were well-curated and so were the side dishes, making this quite a value-for-money experience, especially with friends.
