Going by the same name as one of our favourite cafes in Jeju, Slow Boat is Singapore’s first vinyl-listening cafe, located along Craig Road, sharing the same space as Fotomat Studios.
Vinyl Cafe in Singapore
After visiting Vinyl Seongsu (바이닐 성수), we did hope for a similar concept in Singapore and tadah, Slow Boat decided to open in Tanjong Pagar!
If you’ve never been to a Vinyl or LP cafe before, it’s a space for you to browse and enjoy vinyl records. At Slow Boat, each table (good for 2 pax) comes with its own turntable equipped with 2 headphones.
The price for a listening ticket (1-hour Vinyl music + drink) is $30.
Slow Boat recommends making reservations to avoid disappointment, but walk-ins are welcome as well. However, if the place is packed, they do give priority to those who made reservations – so just make one to be safe. Reservations can be made here.
Our Experience at Slow Boat
Once we arrived, we paid for a listening ticket and picked our drink of choice. The menu here is simple with options such as Black ($5), White ($5), Yuzu Tea ($5), Green Tea ($3), and a Root Beer Float ($5).
After that, we were ushered to our seats, and the staff kindly explained to us how everything worked – how to put a vinyl into the record player, how to use it, etc. So if you’re someone who has never used a turntable before, no worries!
All that was left to do was pick our choice of vinyl from their library, and it was quite diverse. We saw records from popular artists such as Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Mayday, and even TWICE.
1 hour definitely wasn’t enough for us, but the overall experience was amazing. Since each person gets their own table, it felt very private – perfect for those who want to escape crowded cafes.
