It’s been slightly more than a year since our previous meal at Open Farm Community, and since then, the restaurant in Dempsey has refreshed its menu, with more items focusing on ingredients sourced from the region.
New Menu at Open Farm Community
Apart from regionally sourced ingredients, Open Farm Community continues to support the urban farming ecosystem by harvesting fresh greens and fruits from its very own farm & garden. It’s just located right beside the restaurant, so you can rest assured that everything you’re getting is of amazing freshness.
These ingredients, such as tamarillo and local herbs, are used in their dishes and drinks.
Much like their previous menu, the refreshed menu caters to a communal dining experience, so make sure to grab a few friends for the best experience!
Here are some of the dishes we tried from their refreshed menu:
To Start
To start, we had the OFC Farm Bread ($12) that was toasted to perfection and served with whipped Mexican Oregano Cream Cheese. The silky and creamy Stracciatella ($28) was served together with house-cured duck prosciutto and figs.
While the Momotaro Tomatoes ($22) appealed the least to us (not usually tomato lovers), it was one of our favourite starters! Featuring marinated tomatoes, and crispy capers before being topped with smoked anchovies and their grown herbs – everything paired so well with each other, with the salty, briny flavours of the anchovies bringing out the sweetness of the tomatoes even more.
We also tried the Red Snapper Ceviche ($24), which uses locally caught snapper in a citrus-forward dressing, along with Tamarillo farmed at OFC.
Perfect For Sharing
For the larger protein plates that are great for sharing, you won’t go wrong with the Hay Smoked Chicken ($65). It was served with baked new potatoes and a Laksa Chimichurri made using laksa leaves grown on their farm, which made for a hearty bite.
For seafood lovers, the Seasonal Catch ($45) features Line-Caught Whole Fish served with Cultured Kombu Butter and Lettice a la Plancha.
Their sides are perfect for these large plates, and some highlights for us included the Spiced Okra ($16). We’re not usually fans of Okra (it’s a texture thing), but like they say… you can deep-fry a boot and it’ll taste delicious. The crispy Okra paired with Cajun Spices dipped in their Lemon-Garlic Aioli was chef’s kiss.
Similar to one of their previous sides is the Heirloom Carrot ($22), which comes with walnuts, honey and garlic yoghurt. Yum.
Instead of fries, Open Farm Community has House Chips ($16). Made using hand-cut potato chips, they lean towards wedges and are tossed in garden herbs and pepper berry salt. It’s very addictive, so be careful!
Make sure to end the meal with one of their many desserts. Our favourite was the Deconstructed Tiramisu ($19) which brilliantly features elements like a Kahlua-Soaked Sponge, Coffee Jelly, and Mascarpone Espuma. Chocolate lovers, you cannot miss this!
