Tarte by Cheryl Koh is not an unfamiliar name to Singaporeans. The Les Amis Group’s Pastry Chef Cheryl Koh shot to fame when she was named Asia’s Best Pastry Chef back in 2016.
Looking back at some of their tarts such as the Jukhyang Strawberry Tart and Korean Mountain Wild Berries Tart, the quality of produce used is impeccable.
For the month of September, the brand is collaborating with BrandFit, a Korea Agri-Food Promotion & Marketing company founded by Chef Olivia.
Tarts Using Premium Korean Produce
For this collaboration, the brand is launching 3 new tarts that feature Korean muskmelons, shine muscat grapes and yellow pine nuts.
Intrigued, we went down to Shaw Centre to purchase and try out these delicious looking tarts for ourselves.
Sangju Shine Muscat with Sinkiwon Yuja Cream Tart
You’ve probably come across these grapes not because of how pretty and perfect they look, but because of their exorbitant prices.
They are expensive for a good reason.
Farmers only grow one to two bunches of grapes on each vine at a time (usually it’s about three to five depending). This produces exceptionally sweet fruit with a hint of mango when chewed.
When we tried the tart, we were greeted by the shine muscat’s crisp texture and the aromatic yuja (aka yuzu) fruit peel fragrance. While the muscat tasted great by itself, the combination with the yuja cream tart definitely elevated the experience.
Gapyeong Pine Nuts with Mudwadam Green Fig Jam Tart
Just by looking at the tart, we were expecting a rather sweet tart because it looks like a typical caramel based tart. But it was the complete opposite.
We can’t remember if we’ve had pine nuts before but the ones on this tart were absolutely phenomenal.
Crunchy, and almost savoury, the pine nuts were the star of this tart. We almost forgot about the green fig jam in the tart, oops.
According to BrandFit, green figs are generally larger and plumper than black figs. They have a higher sugar content and a richer flavour, which is why they are prized for jam making.
Master Cho’s Musk Melon with Mascarpone Cream Tart
Heard of Cheonyang peppers? Yes, the spicy ones.
Well, turns out Cheonyang isn’t just famous for their peppers, they are famous for melons as well.
This tart is topped with slices of Master Cho’s famed muskmelons from Cheong-yang.
The melons can only be purchased between the months of July to October and are characterised by their high sugar content and special aroma.
True enough, the melons were really sweet, but not in an artificial way. When paired with smooth mascarpone cheese, a match made in heaven.
Where To Purchase The Tarts
Each tart is retailing at $13 each and will be available till the end of Sept 2020 in limited quantities. For orders, you can place your order through their website or drop them a Whatsapp text at +65 9751 0109 for pick-up orders.
