With working from home being the default mode for work, it looks like most of us would be figuring out how to settle our meals at home. Good news, Chef Justin Quek has released a line of ready-to-eat meals at Cheers and FairPrice Xpress.
FYI: Chef Justin Quek co-founded Les Amis, a French fine-dining restaurant back in 1994 (but has since left the establishment in the year 2004). The restaurant currently has three Michelin stars.
Ready To Eat Meals by Chef Justin Quek
The meals are pretty affordable, ranging from $5.65 to $5.95 per meal.
There are a total of three different meals:
- Sambal Prawn Capellini (S$5.65)
- Chicken A La Crème (S$5.95)
- Fish Curry and Coconut Rice ($5.65)
We managed to find them at a Cheers store near us. You can click here to see the exact list of places you can get them from.
Sambal Prawn Capellini
The first thing that caught us off guard was probably the size of the prawns, not one but two!
The capellini is tossed with sambal sauce, which was spicy and fragrant. But it did look slightly different from the packaging photo.
The noodles had a nice texture and weren’t clumped together. It did get a bit sticky towards the end.
While we were appreciative of the prawns, being a sort of convenience meal, having to peel the prawns seemed slightly inconvenient.
Chicken A La Crème
While it was the most expensive dish from the lot, the Chicken A La Crème was our least favourite.
It came with pilaf rice and a side of creamy chicken with mushrooms and edamame. The creaminess was decent for its price point, but we did find it a bit salty for our liking.
Fish Curry and Coconut Rice
First things first, the coconut rice provided was really fragrant and fluffy. The side of fish curry came with brinjals, ladyfingers, and thick fish slices.
We tend to avoid fish instant meals because they usually come with a really strong fishy smell. However, the one used here didn’t taste fish and was of decent quality.
While the curry sauce was on the watery side, it had mild spicy flavours with a tinge of sourness.
Delicious Ready To Eat Meals from Cheers
Overall, we did find that the standard for these was slightly higher than your usual instant meals. For the price point, we would recommend this for people who are in a rush to make meals, especially on days where you have back-to-back meetings.
Available till 30th Sept 2021 at Cheers and FairPrice Xpress.
