Over at the Beauty World Center outlet, Feng Xiang Bak Kut Teh sells traditional Klang-style herbal bak kut teh alongside a variety of delicious dishes like fried porridge and vinegar pork trotter. The brand now boasts 4 outlets in Singapore, but had its beginnings in 2021 when the Malaysian founders missed home-cooked meals when borders were closed.
The Seven Wonders Of Feng Xiang BKT
The stall offers seven signature dishes from the full variety of their menu. Starting with the Signature Herbal Bak Kut Teh that comes both in soup ($6.90 for small, $11.90 for large) and dry versions ($7.90 for small, $13.90 for large). Each portion came with tender pork ribs seasoned in their respective sauces. The soup version had a robust herbal flavour with pieces of Tau Pok and Tau Kee, while the dry version had a satisfying deep soy sauce flavour spiced with chillies – would definitely go perfectly with some white rice!
Pair the saucy dishes with sides like the crispy You Tiao ($1 for a bowl), that’s made in-house. The dough was served warm and crispy, and kept its crunchy exterior even after being soaked in the soup! It’s a must-order with their Bak Kut Teh.
Choose from other Feng Xiang signature dishes like the Fried Intestines ($5.90). The intestines were crunchy and deep fried to perfection without any funky flavour, and were a fitting pairing to the meal with some chilli sauce.
The Vinegar Pork Trotter ($5.90) came with thick chunks of fall-apart braised pork trotter and a whole egg stewed in a delicious sour-savoury sauce.
The star of the show was their fried porridge, which is simmered in a broth and blasted with fire (literally) in a wok! We got the Sliced Pork Fried Porridge ($5.90) that came garnished with fried shallots, green onions, and tender slices of pork.
The wok hey was off the charts thanks to the fire of the wok and each bite had a great mouthfeel thanks to the thick (with double Cs) porridge. While we felt it needed a bit more seasoning to compliment the smoky flavours, the serving size was generous and can comfortably feed two people.
Perfect to indulge in on a rainy day, give Feng Xiang Bak Kut Teh a try! Visit their Beauty World Center location or other outlets in Vivocity, Tai Seng, and Seng Kang.
