You may not know this but, you’ve probably passed by Wonderful Bapsang over at Suntec a couple of times. The Korean restaurant over at Suntec is located inside Lee Mart, with a view overlooking the Fountain of Wealth. Good news for Westies, they have opened a new outlet in the West, at IMM.
Comes With A Korean Mart
Like their outlet at Suntec, the Wonderful Bapsang Korean restaurant at IMM is located together with a Lee Mart as well.
However, we didn’t see a Banchan store at this outlet.
Judging from their store sign, the restaurant here seems to focus on Korean BBQ.
It was relatively empty on a weekday night, and we noticed that not everyone is having KBBQ.
Menu at Wonderful Bapsang IMM
They have BBQ sets with different combinations of meat such as Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly), Yangnyum Moksal (Pork Collar), and Beef Cuts.
The BBQ set comes with a Jjigae (stew), Steamed Egg, and Rice.
Apart from BBQ sets, you can also expect to find mains like Kimchi Fried Rice ($12.80), Naengmyun ($15), Korean Fried Chicken ($23.80), and Korean pancakes (From $18.80).
We decided on one of the BBQ sets which comes with Samgyeopsal, Yangnyum Moksal, and Yangnyum Dak Galbi.
Korean BBQ
As always, the side dishes were served to us immediately after we placed our orders. There were a total of 6, and we enjoyed their kimchi, broccoli, and the mushroom side dishes. We also realized that if you’re ordering items like Kimbap, Wonderful Bapsang also serves you all the banchan.
We especially loved how our own personal plate came with a small side of ssamjang, salt, raw sliced garlic, and pickled chilis.
One thing we weren’t really sure about was how the staff said that the portion would be perfect for 2 and yet, only 1 bowl of rice was served. (okay lah, eat less rice)
We were served two slices of pork belly of decent quality. You can make a wrap using the lettuce leaves provided.
To our surprise, the Marinated Pork Collar was really juicy and delicious. The texture wasn’t too tough nor was the marinade too salty. It tasted really good on its own, but pairing it with a wrap or rice made it even better.
However, the Yangnyeom Dak Galbi was slightly disappointing. The amount of marinade was just too much, and the overall taste was leaning towards the sweeter side.
Kimchi Jjigae
We opted for the Kimchi Jjigae for our choice of stew. Inside it were generous chunks of meat, tofu, and kimchi.
The stew was not diluted and had a perfect consistency. It also had a nice balance of sour and spicy flavours from the kimchi.
Korean BBQ in Jurong East
Wonderful Bapsang would be a great place for anyone craving Korean food after doing some outlet shopping at IMM. The prices are also quite reasonable for Korean food.
While everything was almost perfect, we were pretty bummed to know that the place doesn’t offer free water like most Korean restaurants.
Guess you’ll just have to head next door and grab some drinks from the Korean mart after your meal.
