Fresh Brewed Apple Makgeolli & KBBQ At Market Blue In Tanglin Mall

There’s a unique social practice in Korea when it rains: you must eat jeon (pancakes) and drink makgeolli, a sweet rice wine. You can replicate this experience in Singapore at Market Blue, a Korean-specialty food concept in Tanglin Mall

New Market Blue Menu Items

Market Blue functions like a food court with stalls offering different Korean foods, including kimbap, grilled meats and bunsik (street food). Classic dishes include Jjajangmyeon ($13.90) and Ginseng Chicken Soup ($26.90), but they also offer stews and tteokbokki! Read our full coverage of Market Blue here.

One unique offering is their house-brewed Makgeolli (from $10.90 per cup, $19.90 for 1-litre bottle)! You can see the brewing tanks at the back in flavours like Hotteok and Honey.

We tried their two newest permanent menu items: Apple Makgeolli and K-BBQ Pork Set

Apple Makgeolli

The Apple Makgeolli ($25++) is served with fresh apple cups, popular in early 2000s Korea! The 1.4-litre jug is good for up to 4 pax and the apple cups are free with your order.

If you like makgeolli, you’ll enjoy this! It’s sweet and fragrant but not too punchy, though the apple flavour could be much more prominent. The cups are a fun touch and you can eat them when you’re done.

Seafood Pancake

Jeon and Makgeolli are a must-pair. We tried the Seafood Pancake ($29), but found that it was too doughy and could be much crunchier. Still, it was well-seasoned and had a good amount of seafood.

K-BBQ Pork Set

The newly introduced K-BBQ Pork Set ($85++) is a feast. It comes with three cuts of Duroc pork – Hangjungsal (Jowl), Moksal (Collar) and Samgyeopsal (Belly). This also includes one stew, a vegetable platter and a daily banchan set with over 5 items!

Daily Banchan Set

The banchan rotates daily and we were impressed by the selection, ranging from kimchi to stir-fried fishcake and even stewed sardines.

A unique dish was the Doktorimuk (도토리묵) salad. It features handmade acorn jelly, a traditional Korean food that’s said to be very nutritious. The jelly itself doesn’t have a strong taste, but is refreshing when combined with the spicy and tangy broth.

Grilled Meats

The meats are grilled tableside for you by the staff. Our favourite was the Moksal (collar), which was juicy with a pleasant crisp from the grill. There was minimal porky smell with all three cuts.

We found the Samgyeopsal a bit tough, which we feedbacked to the staff! Everything paired well with the variety of banchan and it was fun to make different ssam for the meat.

Korean Food In Orchard

Market Blue offers a hearty and varied menu of homemade Korean food, making it an ideal spot for a casual lunch or group gatherings! It’s also located right beside B for Bagel, another Korean-inspired eatery. Check out more Korean restaurants to satisfy your cravings!
