Gyu San Charcoal Bar: Wagyu Hamburg Grilled Right In Front Of You, Meal Set From $23.80++

From the team at Wagatomo and Gyu San is a new restaurant concept Gyu San Charcoal Bar, focusing on the Japanese binchotan grill. Their outlet is located in Orchard at the Forum Shopping Mall.

Open Kitchen Design

Chef Tomoyuki Kiga manning the grill.

When you enter, you are immediately greeted by an open bar/kitchen where you can watch the chefs prepare the food in front of you.

One unique design feature is a strip of sand in front of the tables – they are designed to keep your food warm by putting them on charcoal. A pretty considerate inclusion!

The space is dark but stylish, creating an atmosphere that’s comfortable and not intimidating. There are also group tables further back in the restaurant that has their own in-built grills.

Gyu San Charcoal Bar Menu

A5 Wagyu Japanese Hamburg Set

There’s only one main item on the menu currently – their A5 Wagyu Japanese Hamburg Set ($23.80++).

It comes with two 90g grilled Wagyu patties, a salad plus unlimited rice and miso soup!

The patties are first cooked on a hotplate and then finished on the charcoal grill, creating the signature grill marks on the outside.

They were juicy and well-seasoned, with a sweetness from the onions included in the patty. The meat was filled with a savoury fatty flavour of the Wagyu that went great with the rice!

You can choose from the eight provided sauces to get garnish your patty, with both spicy and non-spicy options. We think the chimichurri and kimchi are worth a try.

Add-ons

Clockwise from left to right: Wagyu Patty, Shiitake, Kabocha, Asparagus, Shishito Pepper, Enoki

There are sides you can order to try, including an Onsen Egg ($2.50) and an additional Wagyu Patty ($8.50).

Other options include the Shiitake ($3.50) and Enoki ($3.50) wrapped in beef, which they also cook on the grill.

We highly recommend the Kabocha ($3.50), which had a nice crisp exterior which accentuated the sweetness of the flesh!

You can also refresh your palette with sides like Pickled Cherry Tomato ($3.50) and Pickled Cucumber ($3.50).
