Enjoy A5 Wagyu Yakiniku, Lobster Laksa Ramen And More At EN Group Japanese Restaurants In Jewel

If you’ve been looking for a legit and luxurious Japanese Yakiniku experience, there are new options open by EN Group at Jewel Changi Airport!

EN Group is the brains behind popular Japanese chain restaurants like Aburi-En, Tamago-EN and Monster Curry. This year, they have introduced the newest concept Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku to Singapore from its flagship in Hong Kong, showcasing the best of Japanese Wagyu.

The Jewel outlets also mark Kiwami and Tempura Makino’s fourth outlets with a premium touch. We got the chance to try out the menus at Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku and Kiwami!

Stylish And Elegant Interior

The three Japanese concepts are side-by-side in Jewel, but boast different interior designs.

The overall vibe is one that is cosy but elevated, with Japanese inspiration in the decor down to the quality utensils.

Both Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku and Kiwami have open bars with sleek countertops where you can watch the bartenders mix up your drinks.  Kiwami has a smaller store space, but the strategic placement of a mirror and lighting makes the space seem large.

Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku Menu

The menu at Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku encompasses everything from A5 Miyazaki Wagyu yakiniku, noodles, pancakes and even salads. Some menu items include:

The Jewel outlet also boasts the Wa-En Bar, a distinctive feature from Hong Kong. The bar serves its own menu of unique cocktails and menu items like Wagyu Foie Gras Tacos ($22) and Uni & Ikura on Truffle Inaniwa Cold Udon ($25).

Wagyu Beef Platter

The star and must-order is their Wagyu Beef, which they offer in platters or a la carte. We tried the Wagyu Beef Platter ($158) with 7 types of Wagyu cuts – Deluxe Miyazaki Marbled Wagyu Karubi, Premium Miyazaki Wagyu Karubi (2 types), Australian Wagyu, Premium Miyazaki Wagyu Chuck Roll, Australian Wagyu In Grilling Sauce and the Premium Australian Beef Tongue.

The quality of meat from Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku is undeniable – the visuals alone are enough to whet your appetite, with the variety of marbling and quality cuts of meat. You can grill the meat yourself to your doneness of choice.

All the cuts on this platter were equally delicious and would easily please any meat lover! The Deluxe Miyazaki Marbled Wagyu Karubi is definitely a highlight with an amazing melt-in-your-mouth fattiness and clean beef flavour, especially with a golden crust on the outside.

Those who prefer a meatier cut will enjoy the Australian Wagyu in a Salt sauce which had more chew, but an equally deep beef flavour. The meal also came with Assorted Kimchi ($12) – cucumber, radish and lettuce – which were surprisingly well-made and cut through the richness perfectly.

Premium Iberico Pork Jowl

The menu also has non-beef options like the Premium Iberico Pork Jowl ($22). The meat was thick-cut and very fatty, making for a satisfying bite when grilled.

Hiroshima Oyster

The Hiroshima Oyster ($18 for 4) were huge – almost palm-sized! When grilled, they were plump and juicy with a clean and enjoyable umami from the ocean.

Wa-En Salad

Those who enjoy greens will enjoy the Wa-En Salad ($18) topped with A4-A5 Miyazaki Wagyu, fresh salad mix and a spicy, citrusy dressing. This was refreshing and satisfying with a balance of fatty meat and crunchy vegetables.

Morioka Cold Noodle

Another notable side dish was the Morioka Cold Noodle ($18), which is reminiscent of a Korean bibim-naengmyeon. The noodles came topped with a variety of vegetables, a runny onsen egg and a spicy, tangy cold broth.

The noodles were springy and complemented the broth well, which was a great way to whet the appetite! The toppings also added a pleasant crunch alongside the creaminess of the egg.

Black Edamame

The Black Edamame ($7) was also quite addictive! Unlike the usual bland edamame in other restaurants, the black edamame had a unique and notable earthy flavour.

Miyazaki Wagyu Fat-washed Old Fashioned

Yes, that’s a piece of cooked Wagyu as garnish!

One of the most unique drinks on Wa-En Bar’s menu is the Miyazaki Wagyu Fat-washed Old Fashioned ($24). The cocktail infuses Wagyu fat into whiskey to distil the beefy flavour. It went down smoothly with a pleasant smokey aftertaste that wasn’t too cloying! If you enjoy artisanal cocktails, this is a must-order.

Kiwami Menu

On the other hand, Kiwami focuses on ramen and gyoza, while also offering a unique cocktail menu. Some items you can get:

Their cocktail menu features local flavours infused into their drinks, with options like Kiwamitini ($23), Clear Pandan Gimlet ($23) and Kopi Tonic ($18).

Lobster Laksa Ramen

A Kiwami signature is the Lobster Laksa Ramen ($38), featuring half a Boston lobster sitting in a spicy, rich Laksa broth and thick noodles. This was satisfyingly spicy with the fragrance from the coconut milk coating each noodle strand.

Gyoza

There are a few unique gyoza options that showcase local fusion! We tried the Satay Gyoza ($10) and Chilli Crab Gyoza ($12), each coming with five gyoza and a themed sauce.

The satay sauce had a fragrant peanut flavour while the chilli crab sauce was spicy and sweet! The gyoza had a good amount of juicy meat filling and crispy skin.

Chendol Sling

One of Kiwami’s Singapore-inspired cocktails is the Chendol Sling ($23), a take on the classic Singapore sling. The drink is a mixture of Compendium Spirits Chendol Gin, Pineapple Juice and Angostura Bitters.

This drink is a good choice for those who like sweeter cocktails. The mix of pineapple and lime juice was a perfect balance to the fragrant pandan gin, making for a pleasant drink.

Chendol Ice Cream

A sweet end to the meal was the Chendol Ice Cream ($8), served in a cocktail glass with coconut ice cream, shiratama dango and a gula melaka sauce. The dessert on its own was sweet and pleasant, but you can opt for a shot of Ondeh Ondeh Soju for $2 for an extra kick!
