If you’re looking for a new lunch spot in Telok Ayer, check out Tori-San. This Taiwanese ramen brand is opening its flagship store in Singapore, featuring a speciality menu of chicken-based noodles for under $15.
Convenient Lunch Location
Tori-San is located right outside Telok Ayer Exit A with a striking green store sign.
It’s a small but cosy space with plenty of seating options, including counter-side and window-side seating.
Tori-San Menu
The menu is chicken-focused, spanning between ramen and yakitori. Their Signature item is the Toripaitan Chicken Broth ($12.90), soaked in a rich broth simmered for hours with young hens.
Other soup options include Sakura Yuzu ($12.90) and Truffle Umami Toripaitan Chicken ($13.90).
If you don’t fancy noodles, you can opt for Chicken Broth with Vegetables that are served with rice. Choose from the regular Toripaitan ($11.90) or Spicy Mala ($11.90).
Their Yakitori (grilled chicken selection, $2.90/each) includes Thigh, Breast and Meatball, which you can top with mentaiko or kimchi.
A Singapore exclusive is the Yakitori Rice Bowl ($12.90), complete with an onsen egg!
There are a variety of other dishes, including Karaage ($6.90) and Fried Chicken Gyoza Dumplings ($3.90/$11.90, 3pcs/10pcs).
What We Tried
The Signature Toripaitan Chicken Broth ($12.90) was served with tender chicken breast slices, grilled chicken thigh and housemade chicken meatballs.
The broth was creamy and thick with a nice sweetness. It was also light enough to not be cloying, making this a perfect lunch option.
We liked how there wasn’t any strong flavouring or MSG taste, just flavoured by the chicken base!
Something nice they offer is a complimentary house-made yuzu slushie to cleanse the palate before the start of the meal.
They have one dry noodle option, the Spicy Chicken Dan Dan Noodles with Scallion ($12.90). On first impression, the bowl was huge!
The noodles were thick cut and chewy, carrying the numbing, mala-like sauce well.
It had quite a kick but we feel it could use more depth of flavour as it was mostly just spicy.
We tried the Assorted 3-Skewer Yakitori Platter ($7.90) served with mentaiko mayo and kimchi.
This leaned on the salty side but we enjoyed the slightly charred flavour with the sweet-savoury glaze.
Of the three, we recommend the chicken Meatball! It paired especially well with the tangy, spicy kimchi.
