Dal.Komm Playground: Korean-Inspired Dining Concept In Guoco Midtown With Strawberry Makgeolli Bingsu

Dal.Komm COFFEE, the familiar Korean coffee brand, has introduced an exciting new concept at Guoco Midtown called Dal.Komm Playground! The all-day dining space has a dual cafe-pub concept inspired by a cosy fox’s den. Unlike their usual coffee menu, they offer a blend of traditional cafe fare and Korean-inspired dishes along with a range of Korean alcoholic beverages exclusively at this outlet.

Dal.Komm Playground Menu

Their menu caters to a diverse variety of options, including shareable bites like Fox M Boneless Fried Chicken ($16.90) and Sweet Potato Fries with Sour Plum Powder ($12.90).

For a more substantial meal, they offer the Bulgogi Sandwich with Chips ($18.90) and a variety of other mains. Brunch offerings include Kimchi Meatball Shakshuka ($18.90), and desserts like the Injeolmi Cruffin ($15.90) are also available.

Alcoholic drinks include the Green Grape Granita ($14), Strawberry Makgeolli Bingsu ($38), and craft beer brewed in Korea, such as Witch Chocolate Stout 5.7% ($16) and Madam Raspberry Ale 5.6% ( $15). For sharing with friends, try their Signature Seafood Kimchi Ramyun Soup ($39.90) or the fiery Spicy Kimchi Pizza ($18.90).

Pan Fried Sotteok

Dal.Komm Playground- Pan Fried Sotteok

The Pan Fried Sotteok ($16.90) came nicely presented instead of the traditional skewers. These rice cakes had a pleasant chew with the juicy and snappy sausages. While the gochujang sauce added a nice smokey flavour, we think it could be spicier for a better kick.

Sharing Plates

The Signature Seafood Kimchi Ramyun Soup ($39.90), intended for two, had a generous portion that we felt was suitable for 3-4 pax. The kimchi broth had a bold, spiced flavour with some of the seafood’s natural sweetness, but leaned on the salty side.

But we were surprised to see it came with a generous amount of seafood: chewy octopus, scallops, prawns, and even real crab leg!

The Seafood Pancake ($23.90) had bits of seafood evenly dispersed within the batter, adding a good texture. We think it could be much crisper for a better texture, but enjoyed the softer interior.

Beef Bulgogi Sandwich

The Beef Bulgogi Sandwich with Chips ($18.90) was our favourite among the dishes we tried! The sourdough bread had a crisp crust and a soft interior.

Sandwiched within were the sliced beef short ribs coated in a savoury bulgogi sauce and creamy kimchi mayo. The caramelised onions added sweetness, while melted mozzarella cheese brought a touch of richness. The sandwich came with a side of chips and salad, making it a well-rounded and satisfying meal.

Vegetarian K-Bowls

The Vegetarian K-Bowl ($14.90) is a hearty meat-free option. It featured roasted mushrooms, egg, kimchi, and kale. While we would have preferred a spicier sauce, the overall combination was fresh and satisfying. This is a great choice for vegetarians!

Strawberry Makgeolli Bingsu

The Strawberry Makgeolli Bingsu ($38) was a refreshing twist! It came with a bowl of shaved ice with fresh strawberries and a full 1.2-litre bottle of makgeolli!

The sweetness of the strawberries made this very easy to enjoy, making it good for those who prefer a lighter, more refreshing taste.

Cruffin French Toast

The Cruffin French Toast ($18.90) was the perfect end to our meal. The combination of the dense, buttery cruffin and creamy vanilla ice cream made for an enjoyable contrast.

We also liked the topping of fresh fruits and granola! Plus, it wasn’t too sweet, making it easy to enjoy.
