Mutiara Seafood: Halal-Certified Seafood Concept By Jumbo Seafood With Special Grill Menu

Newly opened in Geylang Serai is Mutiara Seafood, the first halal-certified restaurant concept by Jumbo Seafood! The menu follows the same beloved Jumbo Seafood menu, with a Mutiara-exclusive section.

Double-Storey Restaurant Space

The restaurant is located in Wisma Geylang Serai, spanning two impressive floors, with the second floor reserved for VIP/private room seating.

It has the same classic comfort and layout as a family restaurant, with tables designed to seat larger groups.

The VIP rooms are suitable for private events and can be adjusted to different group sizes.

Mutiara Seafood Menu

The menu features halal versions of Jumbo Seafood favourites, such as live seafood like lobster (from $12.80/kg) and fish (from $6.30/100g) prepared in different ways.

There are also options including bamboo clams, prawn and crab! They also have a varied selection of side dishes like Mocha Fried Chicken (from $16), Scallops Wrapped In Yam Ring (from $20) and Homemade Vegetable Beancurd Braised with Crab Meat (from $20).

A Mutiara exclusive is their unique grill menu, with items like Grilled Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce ($14 for 6) and Grilled Tilapia Fish with Sambal ($40 for a whole fish, 550g).

Seafood Pumpkin Soup

The Sup Labu Kuning dan Seafood (Seafood Pumpkin Soup) (from $32) is full of prawns, scallops and asparagus in a thick but drinkable soup.

Despite the pumpkin base, it wasn’t too sweet! It still had a savoury and earthy flavour.

Crispy Fried Baby Squid

The Cumi Goreng Garing (Crispy Fried Baby Squid) ($16) features bite-sized squid coated in a sweet, spicy sauce.

They were super crunchy and quite addictive – their small size makes it easy to enjoy by the mouthful!

Fried Noodles Malay Style

For a hearty main,  try the Mee Goreng Gaya ‘Melayu’ (Fried Noodles Malay Style) (from $20)!

It came garnished with prawns, squid and scallops, coated in a spicy savoury sauce. The noodles were saucy but not mushy and quite satisfying which paired great with the fresh seafood.

Kang Kong Stir Fried with Sambal

A classic dish is ‘Kang Kong’ ditumis dengan Sambal (Kang Kong Stir Fried with Sambal) (from $14), cooked with dried shrimp.

The vegetables were crunchy and fully absorbed the sauce. We think it could be spicier for a better kick but had the familiar sambal flavour.

Signature Chilli Crab

The famous Ketam Cili Sajian Ciri Khas Kami (Signature Chilli Crab) (from $8.80/100g) is a must-order. We tried it with the mud crab and it’s served with fried mantou!

The gravy was sweet, spicy and slightly creamy and coated the crab completely. Their seafood was fresh, sweet and full of meat, making it worth the painstaking eating process.

Of course, we lapped up the sauce with the fried mantou.

Signature Black Pepper Crab

One of our favourite dishes was definitely the Ketam Lada Hitam Sajian Ciri Khas Kami (Signature Black Pepper Crab) (from $8.80/100g).

The black pepper sauce had a nice spicy kick and a rich, unique butter flavour! This version is not saucy but dry, coating the crab meat fully in the buttery pepper seasoning.

We wish we could dip the mantou in this sauce!

Indonesian Grilled Chicken

Mutiara Seafood’s grill menu is also worth the shout-out! The Ayam Panggang Kecap (Indonesian Grilled Chicken) ($20 for half, $36 for whole) features a fragrant spice mix.

The chicken was tender and marinated with herbs like lemongrass and ginger, with a char flavour from the grill.

Grilled Red Tilapia Fish with Sambal

For something with a punch, get the Ikan Tilapia Merah Bakar dengan Sambal (Grilled Red Tilapia Fish with Sambal) ($40 for ~550g).

It features a whole fish grilled with sambal. Beware, it’s spicy – the sambal is going to leave your tongue on fire!

But it was equally flavourful and added a pleasant kick to the tender, flakey fish. The fish is stuffed with lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves which perfumed the meat.

Jimbaran Grilled Prawns

The Udang Bakar Jimbaran (Jimbaran Grilled Prawns) ($28 for 4 pieces) is coated with the same slightly sweet, savoury sambal mix.

Each prawn is huge, practically palm-sized and full of meat! It’s also grilled perfectly with a nice char.

Desserts

They even have classic Chinese-style desserts, like Sago Mangga Sejuk dengan Limau Bali (Chilled Mango Sago Pomelo) ($5).

Muslim friends can also try Bubur Keladi dengan Kacang Ginko dan Labu (Sweet Yam Paste with Ginko Nuts and Pumpkin) ($5), which is made with vegetable oil instead of pork lard.
