We Got To Try Mister Donut: Japan’s Famous Pon De Ring Mochi Donuts In Singapore

This is not a drill – Japanese donut shop Mister Donut is finally opening their doors in Singapore!

Their first permanent storefront is in Junction 8, Bishan and will open officially on 21 May 2023.

Mister Donut Menu

The display of Mister Donut items

Mister Donut is one of the largest donut franchises in Asia, with over 9557 stores in countries such as Indonesia, Thailand and Hong Kong.

The creator of the famous Pon De Ring, Masaaki Nakamura

The menu will feature their signature lineup: Pon De Ring, French Cruller, Old Fashion, Chocolate and Yeast Donuts

Each item is priced between $2.30 to $2.50, with boxes of 6 ($14) and 10 ($23) available.

Pon De Ring

For the uninitiated, the Pon De Ring (from $2.30) is Mister Donut’s all-time famous product. It’s available Plain without any glaze ($2.30) and in Strawberry ($2.50).

It’s a mochi donut that features a crisp exterior but chewy interior, arranged in their signature ring arrangement.

Look at that mochi pull!

We think this definitely lives up to the hype! The chewiness from the batter is satisfying and has a pleasant sweetness that isn’t greasy or overbearing – a must-try from here.

French Cruller

The Angel French Cruller

The French Cruller features a lighter and airy batter that creates twists on the outside.

The pastry itself is fluffy and has an almost spongy texture, which wasn’t too sweet!

We wish the cream filling could have a better flavour as it had a slightly waxy aftertaste. It is also available in the flavour Custard Strawberry French ($2.50), with a more pleasant custard filling.

Old Fashioned

Those who prefer a heartier bite can opt for their Old Fashioned ($2.30), with flavours like Chocolate ($2.50) and Strawberry($2.50).

It has a recognisable ‘split’ that goes around the entire doughnut, creating crunchy edges.

The different textures made this quite fun to eat! It’s definitely denser with an almost cakey centre. We think it’s worth ordering the Chocolate version!

Yeast Donuts

Honey Dip, Strawberry Ring and Custard Cream

The traditional Yeast Donut is also available in a selection of flavours like Honey Dip, Custard Cream, Sugar Raised and more!

There are variations with and without rings, depending on the flavour – you’re sure to be spoilt for choice.

The donut itself was soft and had a pleasant sweet flavour, a reliable and classic donut! We preferred the version with rings as it gave a more satisfying eating experience.

Chocolate Ring

Coconut Chocolate and Golden Chocolate

Having a chocolate craving? You can try Mister Donut’s Chocolate Ring, with chocolate dough covered in toppings.

Currently it’s available in Plain, Golden Chocolate ($2.50) and Coconut Chocolate ($2.50).

This exceeded our expectations. Despite how heavy it looked, the Chocolate Ring was actually quite moist and fluffy! The chocolate flavour was also prominent and not oversweetened.

It’s definitely cakey, similar to the Old Fashioned, but not dry at all.

Singapore-Exclusive Flavours

This outlet will also feature Singapore-exclusive flavours: Pon De Ring Chocolate and Strawberry Chocolate!

The Chocolate Pon De Ring ($2.50) features a chocolate coating that isn’t too sweet. The Strawberry Chocolate ($2.50) also had a pleasant strawberry glaze that reminded us of Strawberry Pokky, pairing well with the chocolate base.
