Chef X is a unique concept by Far East Malls to promote and support local, home-based businesses! From now till 17 April 2025, they are hosting Kentaro (@kentarochickenrice), a concept by husband-and-wife team Stella Leung and Kent Wong.
Kentaro Chef X Menu
The couple have an interesting mix of backgrounds. Stella is from Hong Kong and Kent is from Malaysia, but both share a deep love for Japanese food, inspiring them to start Kentaro.

The fusion of these cultures is visible in their menu, which you can check out here.
Mains
The star item is the Kentaro Signature Sakura Chicken Rice ($9.80). It features Japanese sakura chicken and Hokkaido rice with homemade chilli and green onion oil.
Kent is a huge fan of chicken rice and decided to put his Japanese twist on it!
It was a well-executed plate of chicken rice, with a pleasant fragrance from the rice and tender, sweet chicken. We found the flavours good but too light compared to the usual chicken rice.
Their housemade green onion oil is a game-changer. It gave an addictive flavour that elevated the entire dish.
Other mains include the Curry Beef Brisket ($9.80), inspired by Stella’s memories of Hong Kong, and Sakura Chicken Soup ($9.80).
The Kentaro Curry Chicken ($9.80) uses their signature curry blend and Sakura chicken. We enjoyed the rich and punchy curry flavour, giving a nice kick at the back of the throat!
Sides
They only offer one side menu: Mrs. Kentaro Goodie Bag ($9.80 for 3 pieces). This is Stella’s reimagining of siew mai and wanton.
It features quail egg, prawn paste and cheddar cheese inside a crispy tofu pouch.
This had a great mix of textures and flavour, with the sweetness from the prawn and saltiness from the cheese.
Desserts
Stella’s Handmade Rice Ball with Ginger Soup ($6 for 3) features a family recipe from her grandmother. Every ball is hand-rolled and filled with red date sugar.
These were soft and chewy; the red date sugar provided just the right amount of sweetness to balance the punchy ginger soup.
They will also occasionally offer off-menu items! We tried their take on a traditional herbal soup called Shang Ji Sheng (桑寄生鸡蛋茶).
It’s made with mulberry mistletoe, lotus and an egg. Kentaro adds a fun twist by brulee-ing herbal braised eggs with sugar.
Despite smelling very medicinal, the soup was pleasantly sweet and fragrant; a nourishing end to the meal.
