Great Nanyang: Claypot Series With Homey Dishes Like Asam Stingray, Braised Chicken

Great Nanyang has added new items to their menu of comfort dishes! Their newest Claypot Series will be exclusive to the Tanjong Pagar outlet with a few familiar homey dishes served warm in the humble claypot.

Great Nanyang Claypot Series Menu

The Claypot Series will only be available only for dinner from 5pm to 8.30pm, designed to be shared with others!

Claypot Asam Stingray

Great Nanyang- Claypot Asam Stingray

The Claypot Asam Stingray ($16.90) offers a generous portion of meaty stingray meat and vegetables. The stingray itself was tender and not fishy, but we felt, the assam gravy could have been slightly thicker. While the consistency wasn’t ideal, it still had a good punchiness and spiciness!

Claypot Cauliflower

The Claypot Cauliflower ($8.90) brought a homey touch to the table. It’s simple but good to add vegetables to the meal. The cauliflower was crunchy and coated in a comforting savoury sauce.

Claypot Mushroom Chicken

The Claypot Mushroom Chicken ($12.90) was hearty and satisfying. It had large, tender pieces of chicken stewed in soy sauce-based gravy that was just the right thickness. We also liked the inclusion of tofu skin and mushrooms, both soaking up the sauce really well! The sauce was perfect with rice creating a comforting and flavourful combination.

Claypot Vegetarian Curry Mutton

The Claypot Vegetarian Curry Mutton ($8.90) offered a unique option for vegetarians. The vegetarian mutton tasted closer to a tofu-mushroom meatball with a chewy texture. But the curry gravy was thick and spiced and carried the ‘mutton’ well!  We think it’s a good and unique choice for those seeking plant-based options.

Long Bean Fried Egg

A classic home-cooked dish,  the Long Bean Fried Egg ($8.90) was well seasoned. The egg was fragrant and fried to a golden brown, while still retaining a slight fluffiness. The chopped long beans were evenly distributed throughout the omelette, adding a nice texture contrast.

Fried Fish

Our favourite dish was the crispy, Kampung-style Fried Fish ($12.90)! Despite the simple presentation, this was well-executed. The fish had a crisp exterior and meaty and flavorful flesh without any fishiness. It came with a punchy chilli sauce and lime on the side, adding a nice kick!
