CATBAKE: Cat-Themed Japanese Bakery Cafe Located In Star Vista With Cute Bakes

A short walk from Buona Vista MRT lies CATBAKE, a Japanese bakery cafe serving up several cat-shaped bakes. The cafe is established by chef Shinya Tajima, who took Japan by storm with his Neko Neko Shokupan, a cat-themed bread.

CATBAKE has both indoor and outdoor seating, which is separated by top to bottom glass panels. You can spot quite a few cute cat elements around the shop, which further accentuate the cat theme of the bakery cafe.

Stepping into CATBAKE, you’ll be welcomed by heavenly whiffs of butter and rows of cat-shaped bakes on display.

CATBAKE Menu

The cafe has a combination of your usual bakes such as Croissants ($3.90), Pain Au Chocolate ($4.60), and Kouign Amann ($4.30), and cat-shaped loaves of bread such as the Cat Bread, which comes in 3 flavours, original, raisin and chocolate chip.

Chef Tajima shared that his favourite item from the bakery cafe is cat bread, and highly recommends eating it plain for the best experience. For kids, he recommends making the experience fun by allowing them to draw the cat features on the bread using a chocolate sauce or jam.

You’ll also find beverages like Latte, Iced Chocolate, and more.

One of our favourite items was the Croque Monsieur ($4.50) which sees the cat-shaped slice of bread topped with a cheesy, milk bechamel sauce with ham, toasted to perfection. We loved how light the bread was, and it had a slightly crispy exterior that was so satisfying.

There’s also a Cat Pizza ($4.90) which looks similar to the Croque Monsieur but is tangier and contains bell peppers. This would be great for families with kids!

Perfect for dining in is the Cat French Toast with Gelato ($9.10), where you can choose your own choice of gelato from Chocolate Origin. We topped ours with a scoop of black sesame, but other flavours include Lemon Pie Tart, Rocher Chocolate, Mixed Berries, Coffee Crunch, and more!

For those wanting a quick coffee break, the tiny, adorable paw-shaped madeleines ($1.80/pc) are great when paired with a cuppa. They come in 2 flavours, vanilla & matcha, and are moist and flavourful on the inside!

One of the highlights at CATBAKE is the Cat Cheesecake ($28) which is made with two layers of indulgent cheesecakes and had a soft texture contrasted with the crumbly crust. If you’re not a fan of cheesecake, they also have a Cat Chocolate Cake ($28) which comes in original and dark flavours.

Chocolate Treats Available Too

Apart from the bread and bakes available at CATBAKE, the cafe also houses items from CACAOCAT and Chocolate Origin. Choose from a variety of Hokkaido-made chocolates from CACAOCAT or dig into some of Chocolate Origin’s treats.
