Black Knight Hotpot In Millenia Walk: 16-Hour Simmered Broth Base, Items Like Live Prawns

You probably know Millenia Walk for their Japanese food street, but did you know there’s a hotpot restaurant too? Black Knight Hotpot is a hotpot restaurant offering housemade soups and fresh seafood options! 

Sleek, Modern Interior

In great contrast to their neigbouring restaurants, Black Knight boasts a clean all-black design. There is plenty of group seating with black marble and bright lights, plus a tank with fresh prawns and fish. 

Black Knight Hotpot Menu 

There are 7 soup bases to choose from, ranging from Taro Spare Rib ($38/Single, $58/Double) to Spicy Pot ($38/Single, $58/Double). Their signature is the Fish Maw Chicken Pot ($58/Single), with kampung chicken and cordyceps!

For your ingredients, you can choose from fresh seafood like Dungeness Crab (market price), Bamboo Clam ($18/piece) and Abalone ($22/medium, $28/large). There are also meat cuts like Snowflake Wagyu Beef ($48), Australian Beef Tongue ($28) and Okiniawan Black Pork Belly ($26). 

You can also get hot sides including Fried Spare Ribs ($18) and Braised Beef Tendon ($18).

Fish Maw Chicken Pot

We got to try their signature Fish Maw Chicken Pot, simmered for 16 hours till thick. It’s cooked without any preservatives or additives, enriched simply with the ingredients. 

We enjoyed how collagen-rich it was, with a sweetness from the chicken and umami from the scallop. It’s recommended to try it on its own before any cooking to appreciate the flavours. We can see why this soup is their number one! 

Live Prawn

A special offering are the Live Prawns ($12/100g), literally taken from the tanks before being cooked! They are quickly blanched before the staff peel it for you – so you can avoid any arguments about the shell. 

We enjoyed the firm texture, but noted there was a bit of fishiness. It might be due to the sand vein, which we think you can request the staff to remove! 

Meats

For meats, we had a mix of pork and beef. The US Prime Short Rib ($38) had a great marbling and enjoyable beefiness, amplified by the sweetness of the chicken broth.  

A memorable one was the Japanese Pork Neck ($26), served in an orante rose! Each slice is handcut and arranged for a unique eating experience. Despite the high fat content, the pork had a clean finish and wasn’t too cloying – different from the usual fatty cuts. 

For something less fatty, the Japanese Pork Collar ($26) is also a good option! All in all, the meat was fresh and of premium quality with a good serving size. 

Sides

Their newest additions are two seasonal Autumn cold side dishes: Six Kinds in Vinegar ($18) and Chinese Cucumber Salad ($6).

The Six Kinds in Vinegar features ingredients like prawns, century egg and black fungus in a punchy marinade. It was just the right amount of sour to be appetizing, complementing the different items well. 

A classic Chinese side dish, the Chinese Cucumber Salad was refreshing and a good breather between bites of fatty beef. We recommend mixing both dishes before eating to redistribute the marinades before eating.
