B For Bagel: Korean-Style Bagels In Tanglin With Items Like Red Curry Bagel Sandwich, Maple Cream Cheese And More

Tucked away in a corner of B1 at Tanglin Mall sits B For Bagel, a newly opened bagel store specialising in Korean-style bagels. Unlike its New York counterparts which are denser, Korean-style bagels are on the softer, chewier side. The store offers an exciting menu of single bagels and bagel sandwiches that taste as good as they look!

Korean Cafe Aesthetics in Singapore

The aesthetic interior of a Korean bagel cafe, B For Bagel

B For Bagel’s store is hard to miss. It’s decked in a bright but pleasing orange, with a large store sign and an assortment of cute posters adorning its walls. The eatery is relatively small but has sufficient seating space, including some benches outside of the store. Also, you’ll probably hear lots of conversations in Korean as most of the patrons tend to be Korean!

A unique part of the space is its retail corner, where they sell a lineup of original B For Bagel merchandise like plates and cups, wines and chips. This reminded us of lifestyle stores & cafes in Korea that also have a similar layout, so B For Bagel has definitely nailed their aesthetic and branding!

B For Bagel Menu

The B For Bagel Menu is curated but extensive and includes both single bagels and bagel sandwiches, like:

They also have a selection of dessert bagels such as the Peach Cloud ($7.5), Banana Cloud ($7.50) and Black Turtle Bean Mascarpone ($7.90) alongside drinks like Einspanner ($6.50) and Green Grape Ade ($6.50).

From what we see, there are also seasonal flavours, so you can follow them on Instagram to see what they have to offer!

Salt N Butter

On first impression, all the bagels had a noticeable golden crust and were visibly fluffy! For the Salt N Butter ($5.50), the top was adorned with sea salt flakes and stuffed with generous slices of salted butter. It was a great basic bagel, with a soft and chewy dough contrasted with a crunchy outside. The salt provided a subtle flavour that wasn’t too sharp but still satisfying.

If you like your bagels with cream cheese, you can get their flavoured cream cheeses at $3.90 each including flavours like Maple, Strawberry, Green Onion and Herb.

Garlic Butter Cheese

This one will definitely appeal to all garlic lovers! The Garlic Butter Cheese ($5.50) comes with its center packed with garlic butter, cheese and chilli flakes. The garlic fragrance was strong but not pungent and paired perfectly with the fluffy bagel and kick from the chilli that cut through the grease. It is slightly on the sweet side (which is characteristic of Korean garlic bread) but still has that recognisable savoury flavour.

Soboro (Cookie Dough)

For those unfamiliar, Soboro is a popular sweet Korean bread characterised by a crumbly streusel topping. B For Bagel’s take on Soboro ($4.50) had a generous cookie topping that made for a comforting dessert bread. It would go perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea as a tea-time treat.

Red Curry Chicken

This was one of two bagel sandwiches we tried, and it was easily the highlight of the meal. The Red Curry Chicken ($14.50) came with marinated chicken thigh in a spiced curry sauce, pickled carrots and celery and a yoghurt sauce.

While it may sound like a lot, it was delicious. The chicken was tender and well-seasoned, complemented by the creaminess of yoghurt sauce and balanced by the acidity and crunch of the pickled vegetables. It could have been spicier, but the sandwich was still memorable and a must-try!

Smoked Salmon

The Smoked Salmon ($16.90) is one of B For Bagel’s signature sandwiches. Each one comes with a generous serving of smoked salmon slices, and hard-boiled eggs topped with fresh dill and capers. If you like a classic Smoked Salmon bagel, B For Bagel’s iteration will satisfy your cravings with its familiar but elevated flavours.

Truffle Artichoke Soup

B For Bagel will also offer seasonal soups at $3.90 each! We got to try the Truffle Artichoke Soup that surprisingly came in a mug instead of a soup bowl – so you have it like a drink which is easier to consume (albeit a bit unique).

It was thick, creamy and rich with the luxurious fragrance of truffle from the truffle oil and would make a great pairing with their Plain bagels! You can get their soups at $2.90 if you pair it with any bagel order.

Einspanner

Also known as a Vienna coffee, the Einspanner ($6.50) is essentially an Americano with a layer of cream on top. The cream was on the thicker side which made it a bit hard to drink, but the coffee was fruity and fragrant.

Lemonade

Unfortunately, the Green Grape Ade was unavailable when we visited, but the Lemonade ($6.50) was just as refreshing. It was tangy but not too sour and didn’t taste artificial. It was a great palette cleanser!
