The space at 808 Eating House is simple and clean, with the dim-lit space and eclectic playlist contributing to a hip atmosphere. At a glance, you can see the entire 29-seater dining space along with an open view of the kitchen.

Chef Eugene shared that he wanted to create a space where people can come together, have a great time, and enjoy delicious food.

808 Eating House Menu

We started off with one of Chef Eugene’s signature items, Duck Fat Financiers ($10). The financiers are pan-fried in rendered duck fat and tempered with orange zest to pair with a creamy chicken liver mousse. A decadent treat that got us excited for what’s coming ahead.

Next were the Seasonal Oysters ($8 per piece) which featured house-made green papaya sauerkraut and Sichuan chilli oil drizzled on plump Japanese Miyagi oysters. This was a step away from the usual oysters and lemon combo, but having heat with oysters is not a foreign concept – the Sichuan chilli oil replaces the usual tabasco sauce which added a nice fragrance to the overall dish.

We had to control ourselves with the highly addictive Crispy Baby Squid ($16) dish, which saw baby squids deep-fried to perfection and served along a side of squid ink aioli.

The Sweet XL Clams ($24) from the Small Plates was kind of ironic because these clams were not small at all. The flesh from the clams was plump and juicy, and the hua-tiao broth was fragrant and aromatic.

You must order the You Mai Chai ($12) here, which sees the Chinese lettuce tossed in Pandan oil, honey and mustard dressing, prawn, and coconut flakes. The salad dish was so crisp and refreshing, we would go back for seconds!

As for mains, we had the Buah Keluak Pork Belly ($26) which is one of the restaurant’s signature dishes. Featuring braised pork belly with achar pickles, coconut serundeng, and ginger flower, this was a decadent dish and goes amazing with their Cold Bee Hoon ($6) side dish. If not, definitely go for a bowl of white rice.

We also tried the Barramundi ($28) which was served with a Garam masala pumpkin puree, shellfish broth, and curry leaf oil. We loved the flavour combinations of this one!

Ending the meal with some desserts, we had the Ice Cream Sandwich ($12), which featured a black sesame parfait, with coconut caramel and mushroom crumble. There was also the Peanut In A Cup ($5), which features their own house-made peanut milk with muscovado syrup.
