The five menu will feature items from Culinary Class Wars Season 2, starting with the Monk Fish Liver Chawanmushi ($10.90).

It quickly became the most-talked-about dish, thanks to Chef Jung’s expert preparation of the monkfish, hung on a fish hook for easy processing!

The dish uses charcoal-grilled monkfish and soy-glazed monkfish liver atop a silky chawanmushi. The liver added a creaminess and salty umami but without any funkiness, pairing well with the soft egg and citrus tang of the yuzu.

Another dish from the show is Chef Jung’s Grilled Sea Eel Renkon Manju with Crab Sauce ($39.90).

The braised eel is prepared two ways – braised on one side and grilled on the other – served with a yeongeun manju or lotus root pastry!

It’s elevated with garnishes like crab meat and sotbap rice furikake that highlight Chef’s background in fine Japanese cuisine.

This had a good balance of crunch from the fried manju and melt-in-your-mouth soft eel meat. The sauce was light and made it taste healthy, a nice contrast to the usual heavy flavours of Bulgogi Syo.

Chef Jung helms Udon Caden, a famous restaurant in Jeju Island drawing queues for stylish handmade udon.

So it’s no surprise that the Signature Beef Curry Udon Caden with Grilled Yakibuta ($19.90) is on the menu, with the option to add on pork belly yakitori (for $3)!

The udon was chewy and held onto the curry gravy, but we wished the curry was punchier. With cubes of tender, grilled beef the

Other exciting sides include Creamy Prawn Croquette with Sesame Sauce (2pcs, $12.90), also from Udon Canden and Citrus-Soy Grilled Cod Fish with Burdock Roots ($25.90).

While the croquettes didn’t stand out to us, the cod took us by surprise! The fish was fatty and juicy, with a nice caramelisation providing a moreish sweetness that had us going back for more.
