Yum Cha: Limited-Time $2.40 Anniversary Promotion with Otak Siew Mai & More!

Yum Cha in Chinatown is celebrating its 24th anniversary in a tasty way! From September 13th to November 30th, 2024, enjoy nine specially curated signature dishes for just $2.40 each, highlighting diners’ favourites from the past two decades.

Fried Yam and Scallop

Yum Cha- Fried Yam and Scallop

The Fried Yam Ring ($2.40/2pcs) had a golden, crispy exterior that encases a smooth and creamy yam filling. It’s a lighter take on traditional yam dishes, making it easy to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed. The addition of scallop introduced a subtle sweetness that complements the savoury yam filling.

Scallop Roll in Filo Dough

The Scallop Roll in Filo Dough ($2.40 for 2 pcs) featured a crispy outer crust reminiscent of a savoury Chinese dragon beard candy. The scallop taste was subtle and the shrimp fillings were more pronounced but we liked the overall texture of the roll with its crispy exterior and meaty filling.

Lucky Tangerine Fried Prawn Ball

The Lucky Tangerine Fried Prawn Ball ($2.40 for 2 pcs) was shaped like a tangerine, which was cute! The exterior was crispy, while the interior had a chewy texture similar to sweet potato balls but with a firmer bite.

Inside, was a savoury prawn filling that complemented the chewy and crunchy crust!

Otak Siew Mai

The Otak Siew Mai ($2.40 for 2 pcs) stood out as one of our favourites! The spicy Otak flavour was prominent, complemented by shrimp that added a meatier texture. The skins were thin and soft but held the fillings together well.

Black Garlic Shrimp Dumpling

The Black Garlic Shrimp Dumpling ($2.40 for 2 pcs) featured a soft, thin skin that we enjoyed. The mixture inside reminded us of a savoury mushroom meatball, that was flavourful. However, the black garlic flavour wasn’t as pronounced as we had expected.

Pumpkin Yam Golden Cake

The Pumpkin Yam Golden Cake ($2.40 for 2 pcs) felt somewhat heavy. The combination of yam and pumpkin didn’t complement each other as well as expected, and the cake was slightly oily. It could benefit from a creamier texture and a more balanced sweet and savoury flavour profile!

Yum Cha Teapot Bao

The Yum Cha Teapot Bao ($2.40) is hand-shaped daily and shaped like a teapot, symbolizing Yum Cha’s dedication to tradition and their 24 years of serving comfort and joy.

The teapot bao was filled with osmanthus and oolong tea filling with a smooth texture similar to lotus paste, but without being overly sweet. These baos are available in limited quantities daily, so be sure to head down early to try them!

Dim Sum In Chinatown

Yum Cha is celebrating its 24th anniversary with an attractive promotion, making it the perfect time to visit if you haven’t yet! With its quality dim sum, it’s a great spot for a hearty dim sum meal with family and friends.
