Wonderful Bapsang Suntec City: This Korean Restaurant Makes Their Soondubu From Scratch

Not to be confused with the Wonderful Bapsang that is often paired with Lee Mart. The new Wonderful Bapsang at Suntec City is a stand-alone concept, reopened by the Goldmoon Group, which is behind places like Seoul Noodle Shop and Tonshou.

Keeping the name of Wonderful Bapsang, the new Korean restaurant offers a gorgeous view of Suntec’s Fountain of Wealth. It features a brand-new look, along with new menu items.

Gone is the Korean mart, which means more space for seats. This is good because when we visited on the 2nd day of opening, the restaurant was packed during lunchtime.

Wonderful Bapsang specialises in hearty Korean cuisine, particularly Soondubu Stew. In fact, near the entrance of the restaurant, you might even catch a glimpse of them making the tofu and soondubu from scratch.

Soybeans are soaked in water and then processed in a machine specially brought from Korea.

The menu is quite tofu-centric, as expected. There are 9 soondubu stew variations, ranging from your usual protein options like pork and beef, to more unique ones like a Perilla Soft Tofu Stew ($22.90).

For the tofu haters, no worries, as they also have items like Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap ($20.90), Crispy Fried Korean Hairtail Set ($29.50), Jeyuk Bokkeum ($25.50) and more.

Items like the Beef Galbi Jjim ($78.50) and the Beef Housemade Soft Tofu Stew ($41.90) would be perfect for sharing.

What We Tried At Wonderful Bapsang Suntec

We opted for the Seafood & Clams Soft Tofu Stew ($22.90), which came with several side dishes and a bowl of pressure pot-cooked rice. The stew itself contained ingredients like prawns and had a pleasant seafood fragrance to it.

What we really enjoyed was the bowl of perfectly cooked rice. The rice was fluffy, and a nice layer of nurungji was present below. It paired amazingly with the soondubu stew.

Tofu-wise, we couldn’t find any fault with it.

Options like the Jeyuk Bokkeum ($25.50) would be great for those who aren’t huge fans of tofu. It also comes with rice and side dishes, and we thought that the stir-fried pork was well seasoned and flavourful. Very generous with the portions as well!

Their Tofu Gangjeong ($19.50) took us by surprise as we were honestly just expecting deep-fried tofu in a spicy-sweet sauce. However, there was a chunk of meat on top of each tofu slab, almost like something you’d see at a Yong Tau Foo store. Not complaining though, it was quite a delectable (and slightly spicy) dish!

For a place that makes its own tofu, we couldn’t leave without trying their Kongguksu ($17.90). This bowl of cold soybean noodles is likely one of the better ones in Singapore. It’s super well-seasoned, nutty, and creamy. It’s topped with some crushed peanuts, which elevated the entire bowl.

Korean Restaurant in Suntec

There have been quite a few new Korean restaurants being introduced to Suntec as of late, and we’re all for it.

While the operations might not have been at their best, Wonderful Bapsang makes a perfect spot for lunch or dinner, especially if you’re craving a hearty bowl of stew.

You might want to avoid peak times or wait a few weeks and give them some time to iron out the details of their operations first.
