We usually see Toast Box in shopping malls with the same recognisable layout and colour palette. When we heard that Toast Box was opening a new retro/vintage-styled outlet in Bras Basah, it caught our interest – this sounded pretty cool!
Authentic Retro Experience
The outlet takes over the old Music Book Room, a beloved haven for music lovers that ran for 43 years. As a nod to the store’s history, Toast Box retained most of its interior layout including some old store signs!
The front of the store is lined with old-school music memorabilia including a whole piano! Other trinkets include a trumpet, radio and some pictures of the previous owners.
You can also spot the details in the seating area. There’s the original wood panelling on the ceiling plus a few vinyl records on the wall.
Despite never having been in Music Book Room, I felt a sense of familiarity and comfort. Hats off to Toast Box for keeping true to the store’s essence!
New Items To Try
A new menu addition to the menu is Buluo sandwiches! The sandwiches feature house-baked buluo buns with a sweet, crispy topping.
They come in two flavours – Buluo Ham & Cheese ($3.80) and Buluo Luncheon Meat & Cheese ($4.20). You can also top up $2 to get them in a set with medium kopi or teh.
The contrast of salty and sweet made these enjoyable to eat! We liked the Ham & Cheese, which perfectly complemented the buttery buns.
The Buluo sandwiches are available at all outlets island-wide for dine-in, takeaway and delivery.
