STACK: Hip Cafe At Stamford Arts Centre Serving Sandos, Waffles and Coffee

Last seen in Jalan Klapa a few years back, STACK by The Black Hole Group is back at Stanford Arts Centre with a brand-new look, serving Sandos, Waffles, Soft Serve Ice Cream and Coffee.

Hipster Muslim-Owned Cafe Near Bugis

Decked in gorgeous shades of purple and yellow, the 34-seater Muslim-owned Cafe in Stanford Arts Centre gives off a hipster, pop art vibe with bright colours and a mix of furniture. Right next door is Tipo Pizzeria, which is also part of the Black Hole group.

Their branding features characters that are rubber hose-inspired, much like the cartoons from the 1930s, albeit with a modern touch. Quite a popular style in recent days.

Menu at STACK Cafe

Despite its name, STACK does not serve pancakes which they used to back at their previous location. Now, they serve Sandos in 6 variations, alongside Waffles & Soft Serve.

For the Sandos, you’ll find items like Chicken of The Sea ($11), a tuna-focused sandwich, Pollo Avo Club ($13) which is smoked chicken and avocado with housemade spicy aioli and sumac onions, K-Sando ($10), a vegetarian option made with Miso Glazed Eggplant with Kimchi, Gochujang Aioli and Kale & more!

You can find some homeware & t-shirts on display and available for purchase

As for Waffles, there’s only 1 savoury option which is the Morning Glory ($16), which features smoked salmon, egg, avocado and sriracha aioli on liege waffles. The remaining 3 waffle menu items are sweet such as the Yaks ($12) which is served together with Kaya soft serve, coffee cream cheese, shoyu caramel and coconut granola.

For Coffee, they serve Dutch Colony coffee, with a rather limited menu with items like Black ($5.5), White ($5.5) and Espresso ($3.5). There’s also Cold Brew ($7.0), Cold Pressed Juices ($7) and Root Beer ($7).

Spam and Egg and Egg

We tried the Spam and Egg and Egg ($12) which featured a cold egg salad with spam and a whole boiled runny egg in the center. One thing that was different from the usual cafes selling Sandos was the bread, topped with seeds and nuts. This added an additional layer of crunch to the sando, which was primarily creamy.

Go for the Spam and Egg and Egg sando if you want something comforting and familiar.

Puff Puff

While we initially wanted the Pollo Avo Club Sando, it was unavailable, so we opted for Puff Puff ($13) instead. Featuring smoked salmon with pesto cream cheese, kale, onion, and nori, the sandwich had just the right amount of smoked salmon & cream cheese with well-balanced, comfortable savoury flavours.

White

As for the coffee, we had no issues with it except for the fact that it cooled down extremely fast due to the cold air-conditioning.

Cafe in Stanford Arts Centre

If you’re ever near Bugis and need a quick break or lunch, STACK is a great option for coffee/sandos. With their selection of waffles and soft serves, it’s also a good spot for desserts!
