Sip Sip: Brunch Cafe In Raffles Place With Thick French Toast, Tiramisu Matcha & More

TLDR;

Sip Sip is a cafe-by-day, wine bar-by-night concept in Raffles Place, serving a brunch menu Monday to Saturday. Menu items are reasonably priced between $17 to $30, with signature items like the Iron Cast French Toast ($18) and Nori Cold Pasta ($22). The Sip Sip brunch menu is available from 11.30 am to 5 pm.

Brunch cafes are becoming more popular in Singapore and we’re seeing different concepts pop-up across the island, from Korean-style cafe Visitors to unique Kafe Utu with African cuisine. A brunch contender is Sip Sip with their new brunch menu in the CBD that’s available Monday through Saturday.

What Is Sip Sip?

SIP SIP Raffles Place

Sip Sip is a restaurant in Raffles Place with a dual concept: brunch cafe by morning and wine-tapas bar by night.

They have a new brunch menu, expanding their offerings (and opening hours) to the weekends, presenting a laid-back vibe and relaxed ambience.

Sip Sip Brunch Menu

The brunch menu features twists on classics like a Beetroot and Potato Rosti ($28) and Two Sheet Lasagna ($20).

You can also opt for their all-day dining menu with heartier items such as the Nori Cold Pasta ($22),  Lager Brined Chicken ($16) and Shiitake Essence Rigatoni ($20).

They have coffee and matcha options too with specialty drinks like a Roman Iced Coffee ($7) and Taro Coconut Matcha ($8.50).

Their items are all priced between $17 to $30, with nothing above that price point. Given the location and general portion sizes, we think this is a good price!

What To Order At Sip Sip?

Our recommendations are their Iberico Pork Jowl Flatbread ($23) and Cast Iron French Toast ($18).

Made with a special in-house recipe, the flatbread had a crunchy outside but surprisingly fluffy interior, making it the perfect carrier for the runny egg and caramelised vegetables.

We do wish there was more meat to balance out the dish.

Something unique in their menu is the Cast Iron French Toast, inspired by a viral cafe Bread, Espresso & Hakata && in Japan.

While it looks good in pictures, we felt it fell a bit flat.

The bread was a tad dry and could use a longer soak in the egg mixture for that custardy-finish; and the peanut butter center was a little grainy for our liking.

We also tried the Beef Pastrami Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($24) and Mortadella Tartine with layers of guacamole and stracciatella ($17).

The former stood out more with a nice salty bite, and we wish the tartine had more salt.

The Steak Frites ($30) was surprisingly well executed with a medium rare finish, though the meat was a bit chewy.

The creamy pepper sauce complimented the meatiness and we appreciated the big portion! This could comfortably feed 2 people.

For drinks, the Tiramisu Matcha ($7.50) had a nice cream layer on top but we would not order their Taro drinks as there wasn’t a distinct taro flavour.

Overall we found the menu direction interesting but the execution left something to be desired; specifically more even seasoning across elements in each dish.

Is Sip Sip Worth Visiting?

For the price and portions, Sip Sip’s brunch menu is a good option if you are exploring brunch cafes without having to brave long queues. The ambience is good and suitable for gatherings so we still recommend Sip Sip as a place for casual get-togethers.
