Simplicite by Fresh Fruits Lab: Indulge In Parisian Vibes At This Cafe Near Kembangan MRT

Not sure if many of you remember Fresh Fruits Lab, a cafe that was well-known for its colourful test tube drinks. The cafe has undergone a revamp recently and is now known as Simplicite, a cafe in Kembangan with chic French Parisian vibes.

Cafe in Singapore with Parisian Vibes

Simplicité by FFL serves as a tribute to the beauty of the Paris cafe scene after the founders of the cafe travelled to the City of Love many years ago.

From far, you’ll spot Simplicite decked in sleek black with Parisian black and white bistro chairs and golden accentuated tables. The lamps and furniture work together to help set the Parisian mood.

Perhaps you can live out your Emily in Paris dreams here?

Indoors, you’ll find marble tables and chairs in a totally opposite aesthetic, white with a touch of rattan elements.

There’s also a corner with window seats that’s perfect for watching the world go by.

Menu at Simplicite

With the revamp, the test tube drinks previously seen at Fresh Fruits Lab are no longer available. You can find coffee, bakes, brunch, and main items here.

Interestingly, the bakes here are priced affordably, with the Pain Au Chocolat, Apple Braid and Blueberry Braid only costing $1.80.

The Brunch menu is available from opening till 3 pm, with items such as Smoked Salmon & Scrambled Croissant ($16), Brioche French Toast ($15) and Smashed Avocado Toast with Poached Eggs ($16).

They also have mains such as Duck Confit ($28), Salmon Meuniere ($20) and Spaghetti Alle Vongole ($17).

French Baguette

We started off our meal with a basket of sliced French Baguette ($3.80), which came with butter and cream cheese. The texture of the baguette was a perfect crisp, a good start to the meal.

Crabmeat Aglio Olio

We opted for the non-spicy Crabmeat Aglio Olio ($19), which came with chunks of crab meat and a generous portion of pasta. There was a nice garlic flavour and not much of a fishy smell.

If you opt for the spicy version, it’ll come with Korean chilli flakes which we recommend, since it helps to cut through the oiliness.

Eggs Benedict

While the menu clearly stated Sous-vide Poached Eggs, there was only 1 poached egg on our Eggs Benedict ($15).

Stacked beautifully were slices of tomatoes, smoked salmon on top of a brioche toast and then drizzled with hollandaise sauce. There were also rose petals sprinkled for decoration.

The brioche bun was soft and fluffy, and the overall dish had a nice creamy flavour from the yolk and sauce.

Drinks at Simplicite by Fresh Fruits Lab

Simplicité offers coffee, cold-pressed juices and teas by the pot. For those who need a little booze, they also have beers, wines, and cocktails. For the non-alcohol drinkers, there are also mocktails!

Flat White

For their coffee, Simplicite uses the Glow in the Dark blend from Homeground Coffee Roasters that comprises 50% Fazenda Da Lagoa Samba, Brazil and 50% La Zafiro, Mexico.

It’s a relatively dark roast, which resulted in a pretty heavy-bodied coffee. You can feel the bitterness of the coffee towards the end.

Rose Latte

We also tried their Rose Latte (Hot: $6, Iced: $7) which looked absolutely beautiful with the different layers and topped with rose petals.

The drink had a rose fragrance that’s intense but not too overpowering. We also felt that there was a subtle coffee taste towards the end.

For people who don’t really enjoy Bandung, this was a pleasant treat.

Cafe in the East with Parisian Vibes

The cafe is a great escape for anyone who’s missing travel and looking for places in Singapore that feel like overseas. The chairs and exterior of Simplicite really bring out the vibes of Paris cafes, a perfect spot for you to enjoy the afternoon away.

Not only that, if you’re a pet owner, you’ll be glad to know that Simplicite is also a pet-friendly cafe where you can bring your pets along for a meal.
