What’s your way of showing your care for those around you? Other than kind words and quality time, you might find yourself wanting to give gifts as a token of your gratitude. Take inspiration from the Japanese, who have mastered the art of gift giving with their own unique type of gift: high-quality Japanese fruits.

The Significance Of Giving Gifts

The unique gifting culture in Japan is rooted in the belief in showing gratitude through thoughtful gifts that improve well-being and express goodwill to those who matter the most.  There is an entire craft dedicated to creating the perfect gift, with everything from custom packaging to the array of items available for gifting. You can be easily spoiled for choice, with everything from clothing, tea sets, cookies, and more notably – fresh Japanese fruit.

It is common practice in Japan to give fresh fruit for festivals and celebrations as gifts, in part due to the high quality and variety available. Fruits were once considered a luxury reserved for special occasions, and are still held in high regard even as they become more widely accessible.  These fruits are pleasing to the eye and have superior taste, making for a prime gift to symbolise care and kindness from the gifter to the receiver. This sentiment was echoed by Michelle Chong, who shared that her personal experience gifting Japanese fruits was very positive, with her loved ones ‘delighted receiving’ these gifts.

Plus, there’s a fruit for every season! From peaches and apples in the summer to citrus and persimmons for the winter, they are a gift that keeps on giving. So if you’ve been brainstorming about what you should give that special someone, look no further than Japanese fruits!

The Art Behind The Quality Japanese Fruits

Japanese fruits are recognisable by their glossy sheen, large size, and vibrant colours. A lot of research has been put into developing cultivation methods that can produce such fruits, and it begins right at the Japanese farms.

Farms have found the optimal layout for their crops based on the climate and terrain of the environment, and even introduce practices like bagging individual fruits to protect them from the elements. Farmers also hand-pick selected fruits to preserve the best ones for harvesting, removing other leaves and smaller flowers to ensure the chosen fruits are the sweetest ones possible. It is highly labour intensive and time-consuming, but these efforts produce the fruit that are worthy for gifting.

Japanese fruits that have been certified by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery as high quality will bear the ‘Japan-grown Fruit’ label, officiating its quality for export to make it easy for overseas buyers like us to identify them. If you’re planning on getting fruits for gifting, check for this label!
