Pura Brasa PLQ Mall Review: $16 Iberico Satay And Josper-Grilled Tapas In Paya Lebar

TLDR: Pura Brasa is a Spanish charcoal-grill restaurant that has opened its second Singapore outlet at PLQ 1, 1 Paya Lebar Link, #01-01. Standouts include Chef Abuela’s Beef & Pork Meatballs ($18), Josper-Grilled Iberico pork collar satay ($16) and the 18-Hour Sous-Vide & Josper Pan-seared Beef Short Ribs ($29). Tapas range from $7 to $38, grilled meats go up to $188, and desserts start from $12.

Barcelona-born Pura Brasa has been a CBD fixture at its Tanjong Pagar outlet since 2017. In September 2026, it opened a second Singapore restaurant at Paya Lebar Quarter, adding to an eastside dining scene that already includes spots like Kott-Don 360.

The PLQ menu leans into tapas (small plate dining), featuring 18 of such dishes alongside charcoal-grilled meats and paellas.

What Is Pura Brasa?

Pura Brasa was founded in Barcelona in 2010 by Josper, the Spanish maker of professional charcoal ovens and grills. Its Tanjong Pagar restaurant was the brand’s first international outpost.

The meats, seafood, and paellas go through the Josper charcoal oven, giving the dishes a distinct smoky depth and rich, charred flavor. The 18 tapas include new additions like Head Chef Lluc Brossa’s meatballs, based on a family recipe from his childhood, and Iberico pork collar skewers served satay-style with Indonesian peanut sauce.

The alfresco area is bright and spacious, lined with wooden tables and lush greenery along the perimeter. Indoors, the ambiance gives the space an elevated yet welcoming feel, suitable for intimate dates or casual gatherings.

What We Ate

Chef Abuela’s Beef & Pork Meatballs ($18)

This was one of our favourites. The meatballs were soft yet still tender, and melts in your mouth like minced beef in the best way possible. The gravy has the right savouriness and consistency that ties the dish together.

Josper-Grilled Iberico Pork Collar Satay ($16)

The pork was smoky with a good meat-to-fat ratio. It was on the saltier side, but the meat was tender and packed with flavor. The sweetness of the peanut sauce helped balance it out , and at $16 for 4 skewers, it’s one of the more value-for-money tapas on the menu.

Josper-Grilled White Sweet Corn ($19)

Simple, but worked. The corn itself was fresh and juicy, and the Cajun butter carried the dish with its rich, savory depth.

Other vegetable options include the Jasper-Grilled Broccolini ($20).

Tomato Carpaccio With Burrata Cheese ($28)

The burrata was creamy , and the tomato-to-cheese ratio was just right which balanced out the flavours. However, at $28, the smaller portion size and plain taste make it hard to justify compared to the other tapas.

Other tapas include the Gambas Al Ajillo ($32). The prawns had a nice chewy, bouncy bite, and the crusty bread was well baked. However, the prawns could have used a little more salt.

Spanish Milk Fed Lamb Timbal ($42)

The lamb was quite gamey, but came together better when eaten with the potato purée and jus. The jus was sharp and salty, which may be intentional, but came as a surprise to us.

18-Hour Sous-Vide & Josper Pan-seared Beef Short Ribs ($29)

This was our second favourite dish! The beef was tender and well-seasoned, and the pan-sear gave the outside a slightly crisp crust. Paired with the potato purée and sautéed mushrooms, the dish was tasty and umami without feeling heavy.

Josper-Grilled OP Ribs, 1 to 1.2kg ($188)

The crust on this steak was nice, and the Mediterranean-spiced fried potatoes were buttery and enjoyable. While it was generally medium rare, parts of the steak were tougher. As a $188 centrepiece, it didn’t stand out the way the smaller plates did.

Iberico Pork Jowl Paella, Medium ($37)

The rice was the star here. It was well balanced, absorbing the savoury umami from a rich  tomato broth that gave a rich, layered flavour. It would’ve been enjoyable even without the meat, because the pork jowl was a little fatty and bland for our taste.

Desserts

Burnt Basque Cheese Cake ($12 per slice)

This cheesecake was creamy, with just the right amount of sweetness. Other desserts include the Catalan Cream ($13).

Is Pura Brasa PLQ Worth A Visit?

Yes, especially for the tapas and atmosphere. The satay skewers, meatballs, and short ribs were the clear highlights, while the sweet corn makes for an easy side dish. The space itself is a huge part of the draw, particularly the breezy, airy alfresco area.
