We Ordered McDonald’s New Donut Sticks Without the Cinnamon Sugar and…

With so many new items back on the menu, McDonald’s has been the talk of the town. If the Chocolate Pie, McGriddles and Sweet Potato Waffle Cone is still not enough, good news, McDonald’s has launched a brand-new breakfast item – Donut Sticks.

A pack of 6 donut sticks is priced at $2.20 ala carte, but you can opt for the $3 meal which comes with a cup of McCafe Premium Roast Coffee.

How Did the Donut Sticks Fare?

Honestly, not bad. But we wouldn’t call them donut sticks. It would have to be less airy and denser to be called a donut stick.

It’s basically a sweet and short youtiao. The cinnamon-sugar coating is perhaps the only reason why people are calling it a churro.

If you don’t eat much for breakfast, this would be a good choice for you. For those opting for a heartier breakfast, you should stick to the other breakfast menu items available in McDonald’s.

Without the Cinnamon Sugar Coating

There’s also an option to get your donut sticks without the cinnamon-sugar coating. We tried it and it tasted like a crispier version of a youtiao.

It was perfect when dipped into soymilk, which, unfortunately, McDonald’s does not sell. *cues JJ Lin’s 豆浆油条*

Also, if you order the donut sticks without cinnamon sugar, McDonald’s will prepare a fresh batch for you. The result is a piping hot donut stick that’s extra crispy. It’s like ordering fries without salt! #McDonaldsHack

Final Verdict

If you like churros and youtiao in general, this is worth a try. It would make a perfect dessert if it came with a chocolate dipping sauce just like in the US. This would probably be a seasonal item, much like some of the dessert pies, so try them before they’re gone!

The Donut Sticks are available from today (27 Feb) at all McDonald’s outlets islandwide (except the Science Centre and Shaw Lido outlets) from 4 am to 11 am on weekdays and 4 am to 12 pm on weekends.
