Madam Ang KK: Ang Ku Kueh Specialty Store In Paragon With 16 Flavours

Madam Ang KK is the newest addition to Paragon! Founded by Mr. Daniel Tay – overseeing other brands like Cat & The Fiddle and Old Seng Choong – Madam Ang KK offers fresh, handmade ang ku kueh! They have over 16 variations including sweet, savoury and modern interpretations.

They offer a variety of ang ku kueh which includes classic comfort like mung bean-filled Lucky Mung ($1.90) and peanut-filled Nutty Classic ($1.90). Explore unique options like Almond Noir ($2.40) with dark chocolate and almond, savoury Pang Pang Parma ($2.80) with Parma ham and shallot oil, or the luxurious Iberian Lilac ($2.80) featuring yam and Iberico ham.

The menu expands past ang ku kueh with other hearty dishes like steamed rice! Topping options include  Granny’s Minced Pork with Salted Fish ($9.80), Fragrant Chicken, Mushroom & Chinese Sausage ($10.80) and the Golden Fortune Cordyceps Chicken ($10.80).

There are also steamed buns in various flavours. Choose from the sweet Yammy Mochi ($2.90), the classic Ruby Bean Mochi ($2.90), the unique Mystic Sesame Mochi ($2.90), or the Gourmet Truffle Char Siew ($3.40).

We sampled both their sweet and savoury options, and here are our recommendations. The Melaka Bliss ($2) is a must-try for those with a sweet tooth. Its moist gula melaka coconut filling strikes the perfect balance between sweetness and a nice crunch from the coconut shreds.

Try their Almond Noir ($2.40) which is a delightful addition to the ang ku kueh lineup. It offers a modern twist on the traditional sweet filling. The dark chocolate filling studded with crunchy almond bits is a not-too-sweet take on the classic ang ku kueh filling.

The savoury options are memorable too! The XO Treasure ($2.80)  features a surprising and delicious filling of XO scallops. We also enjoyed the Tender Braise ($2.80), filled with a savoury combination of braised meat and mung beans. The skin’s texture was good and not overly thick with a good chew. 

Steamed Rice 

The Granny’s Minced Pork with Salted Fish ($9.80) brought back memories of a warm, homecooked meal. The pork was well-marinated and flavorful, nicely complemented by the savoury taste of the salted fish.

We also tried their Fragrant Chicken, Mushroom & Chinese Sausage ($10.80). The tender chicken and juicy mushrooms were a perfect pairing, while the Chinese sausage added a touch of smokiness. The steamed rice itself was nicely cooked, not mushy but with a pleasant graininess that absorbed the delicious flavours from the chicken.

Steamed Pau 

Unlike some red bean fillings that can be overpowering, the Ruby Bean Mochi ($2.90) strikes a perfect balance. The ruby bean paste had a pleasantly textured filling. You can still distinguish individual beans that aren’t completely mashed up, avoiding any grittiness which made it enjoyable.

We were also surprised by how well the flavours of the Gourmet Truffle Char Siew ($3.40) balanced each other. The rich, earthy aroma of the truffle perfectly complemented the savoury and sweet notes of the char siew filling. 

Each bun had an enjoyable contrast in textures, between the soft, chewy buns and juicy and tender char siew.

Ang Ku Kueh In Orchard 

It’s hard to find fresh, handmade ang ku kueh in the city, but Madam Ang KK offers a wide variety with something for everyone! For a more substantial meal, their steamed rice dishes and delicious pau selections are perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up.
