This 131-Year-Old Singaporean Sauce Brand Has New Western Sauces: Kwong Cheong Thye x Heman Tan

You might not immediately recognise the Kwong Cheong Thye brand, but they have been making household sauces and seasonings for over 100 years! They are best known for their soy sauce and chilli crisp, made and brewed in their own factories here in Singapore.

In a special collaboration with chef Heman Tan, Kwong Cheong Thye has released new speciality Western condiments to level up your cooking.

Chef Heman Tan cinched the title of Western Cuisine Chef of the Year at the World Gourmet Awards 2022, with over 35 years of culinary experience in Asian and Western cuisine.

His culinary tastes have translated into two new additions: Aglio Olio Chilli Paste ($5.95) and Paprika Hickory BBQ Sauce ($5.95). Both condiments were created to be a versatile but unique twist to your dishes.

The  Aglio Olio Chilli Paste features garlic and spices like cinnamon and star anise. It’s punchy, fragrant and quite spicy – so if you’re a fan of their chilli oil, you’ll definitely like this!

Some ways you can use the Aglio Olio Chilli Paste include simply tossing it with cooked noodles or as a dip for dumplings. We think this would make a great 10-minute lunch and satisfy your Aglio Olio pasta cravings!

In a similar vein, the Paparika Hickory BBQ Sauce uses a blend of aromatics like bay leaves and mixed herbs. This sauce also works as a marinade for different meats and is good for seasoning stews and soups.

One unique way to use the sauce is compound butter; you just need to mix it with unsalted butter! It pairs perfectly with crusty bread, thanks to its smoky flavour.

A Heritage Brand

Kwong Cheong Thye has been brewing their own sauces in-house for generations, with many of their products now also overseas! We got a peek at their factory in Senoko Avenue and their manufacturing process.

The large dry fermentation chambers!
All the good stuff!

For their soy sauce, the beans undergo a dry fermentation for 6 months before being pressed to extract the essence (the good stuff). The mixture is then wet fermented and pasteurised to further develop its flavour, before being bottled up and shipped.

The brand continues to innovate and digitalise its processes – including a fully automated packaging station – but still retains a special handmade touch. Something unique to remember the next time you use their sauces!

Easy Weekday Dinner Ideas

The new Kwong Cheong Thye Western sauces are a culmination of chef Heman’s expertise, and can make your meals easier and tastier! Both the Aglio Olio Chilli Paste and Paprika Hickory BBQ Sauce are now available on their online store.
