Kong Cafe Opens 2nd Outlet at Thomson Plaza with Injeolmi Bingsu and Bunsik Items

Having been to their outlet in Bukit Timah, we’re so glad to know that Kong Cafe has opened a second outlet in Thomson Plaza. Opened by Korean artist Hanna Mi Kim, Kong Cafe serves brunch and homely Korean food.

Kong Cafe Thomson Plaza

Table filled with food from Kong Cafe Thomson Plaza

Located right beside Yakun, Kong Cafe at Thomson Plaza is much smaller compared to their Bukit Timah outlet. There are seats to fit roughly 20 to 24 pax.

The menu here is similar to their previous outlet, with brunch items, coffee, and Korean Bunsik items like Rabbokki and Corndogs. You can find the highly raved Honey Butter Wings here too!

Thomson Waffle

We had the Thomson Waffle, which came with house-cured bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and a side salad. We especially loved the scrambled eggs which felt light, fluffy yet creamy at the same time. It turns out they added a bit of water into the egg before scrambling it!

The sausage had a nice smoky flavour profile and was juicy. The house-cured bacon was also of good quality.

Jjajangmyun

While the Jjajangmyun here cannot be compared to the ones at Itaewon Jjajang or O.BBa Jjajang, it was a different kind of delicious. The one here at Kong Cafe feels homemade, with a nice fragrance of the black bean sauce. It’s significantly lighter and less oily compared to the popular brands.

Rarabokyi

The Rarabokyi here at Kong Cafe Thomson Plaza is for 2 pax and really generous in serving. It contained mussels, fish cakes, chicken sausage slices and instant noodles.

It was nicely balanced in terms of spiciness and sweetness, and no MSG is used in the dish at all.

We paired it with some deep-fried kimmari (seaweed rolls) which were made in-house!

The instant noodles used in Kong Cafe are from a brand called Ottogi.

Hazelnut Americano

The Hazelnut Americano is made using a mix of Columbia and Brazil beans, with a pretty non-acidic finish. The coffee is also made by mixing it with a bit of hazelnut paste, which gives it a nice, nutty aftertaste.

Injeolmi Bingsu

If you’re a fan of sweet treats, the Injeolmi Bingsu is perfect for a quick afternoon treat. The bingsu also comes in other flavours such as Oreo, Matcha, and Biscoff.

The Korean Bingsu is slightly on the sweeter side, with a shaved milk ice and injeolmi powder layers. It comes with a side of red beans and rice cakes. Good news for red bean lovers, the red bean is refillable!
