Gurney Drive: Enjoy Penang Hawker Cuisine In Singapore At Suntec City

Penang restaurant Gurney Drive has opened its second outlet in Suntec City! The restaurant serves up a selection of familiar Penang hawker delights, including a few Suntec City exclusives.

Gurney Drive is a sub-brand under Penang Culture, and has another outlet in Punggol at Northshore Plaza II. This new outlet marks their return to Suntec City after their departure previously.

Gurney Drive Menu

Gurney Drive’s menu has Penang classics like:

They also serve up quintessential dishes like Penang Assam Laksa ($6.50) and Penang Prawn Noodles ($7.50), both with rich, savoury broths.

The Assam Laksa  is chock full of rice noodles, veggies and mackerel with its recognizable spicy, sour soup. Each mouthful also had a pleasant texture from the crunchy cucumber and red onions for a satisfying bite.

The Penang Prawn Noodles were garnished with plump prawns in a sweet and flavourful prawn stock. It had a slight kick in the soup that went well with the yellow noodles and beehoon – we could easily finish the bowl!

There are also other dishes like Penang Nasi Lemak ($7.50), Penang Fried Kway Teow ($8.50) and Curry Chicken ($6.50) for your choosing. If you have a sweet tooth, indulge in the Penang Cendol ($3.00) and the Bubur Hitam ($3.00).

Suntec-Exclusive Menu Items

There are five Suntec-exclusive menu items you can try. The first dish is the Gurney Drive’s Penang Lor Bak ($5.50). We were a bit surprised to be greeted with a seasoned meat roll instead of the usual crackling pork, but Lor Bak represents a different dish in Penang.

The filling is a seasoned chicken mince that’s wrapped with tofu skin and deep-fried. With a crispy skin and salty filling, the Lor Bak went well with the sweet dipping sauce.

The Braised Pork Rice ($7.50) had a slab of tender braised pork belly with a pork sauce atop rice. Fatty and savoury, the sauce went perfectly with the white rice and braised egg.

There’s also the Beef Rendang Nasi Lemak ($8.90) which comes with a serving of spicy and tender beef rendang, perfect with their coconut rice and achar pickles. You can also get the Assam Curry Fish Head ($19.90) and Fish Skin Rojak ($5.50) with crispy fish skin tossed in a signature Penang rojak sauce.
