Desem Bakery is one of our favourite bakeries in Singapore, serving sourdough loaves and bakes such as cream cheese garlic bread. They used to be located in Clementi but have recently shifted to a smaller space in Tanjong Pagar.
Takeaway Bakery in Tanjong Pagar
The new shop is significantly smaller in size and adopts a takeaway concept. The display of bakes is the same as their previous Clementi outlet and the shop is also decorated with bags of flour to showcase the quality ingredients they use.
Desem Bakery at Tanjong Pagar is currently in its soft launch phase, so the variety of bakes is lesser. However, you can still find the iconic Cream Cheese Garlic Bread here, which was a popular hit among customers during our visit.
The bakery is known for using quality ingredients such as Casarine flour and Lescure butter.

Sourdough Cream Cheese Garlic Bread
The Sourdough Cream Cheese Garlic Bread ($5.5) is still as amazing as we remember. With a strong fragrance of garlic and a generous filling of cream cheese, the bread brings us back to happier times in Korea.
Best eaten when warm, you can expect a crispy exterior with a soft and fluffy interior. It also had a nice balance of sweet and savoury flavours which is a popular combination in Korea.
Lescure Butter Roll
The Butter Roll ($3.9) comes in a captivating shade of black due to the presence of charcoal. It uses lescure butter, which is exceptional butter.
It’s creamy and buttery, with a soft and slightly chewy center, finished off with a pinch of saltiness from the crackle of salt on top.
Sourdough Croissant
The Sourdough Croissant ($4) was crispy and flaky on the outside with an airy and fluffy interior. The texture paired with the buttery flavours called for a cup of coffee, which you can get next door at Sugar & Tease.
According to Desem Bakery, their bakes can be stored for up to 5 days in the freezer, and you can simply warm them up using an oven.
Hidden Bakery in Tanjong Pagar
We’re so glad that DESEM Bakery has reopened at a new location as we’ve really missed their cream cheese garlic bread. Despite the smaller shop size, the bakery still feels warm and welcoming.
For those who are confused as to where the bakery is, it’s located in the building right behind Equate Coffee.
