COTTA: Hidden Dessert Cafe in Tanjong Pagar Specializing in Gelato Desserts

Tanjong Pagar has always been a great spot for Korean food but finding a place to have dessert after meals hasn’t always been easy. However, recently there have been a few new dessert cafes such as Amuse Dessert Co. The latest addition is COTTA, a gelato dessert specialty cafe.

Hidden Cafe in Tanjong Pagar

Located on the 2nd floor along the line of shophouses in Tanjong Pagar Road, one might unknowingly pass by COTTA. You have to keep a lookout for their door – we stood outside thinking if we were at the right place for a while.

Going up the stairs, you’ll be welcomed by a very neat and simple space, with seating for up to 15pax.

The atmosphere is also different compared to the bustling street just one floor below.

Menu at COTTA Tanjong Pagar

The gelato specialty cafe serves… well, gelato. You can find interesting flavours like Roasted Corn with Brown Butter Salted Caramel, Muscat Grape Sake, and Gorgonzola with Candied Pecans.

Apart from scoops of gelato, they also have gelato-based desserts such as a Matcha Yuzu Tart ($9), Matcha Goma Cookie Sandwich ($7), and Piedmont Hazelnut Sandwich ($7). While these desserts might look like normal bakes at first, do note that they will start melting, so grab your photos as quickly as possible!

You can also find drinks like Coffee, Matcha Latte ($6), and Taro Latte ($6) here.

TRIO

As you can infer from its name, TRIO ($11) consists of 3 things. In this case, 3 different types of cheese: Tête de Moine, Gorgonzola and Parmigiano.

There are also bits of cranberries in the gelato, which add a bit of sweetness to the dessert. This would be a hit among cheese lovers, with distinct savoury cheese notes.

Dark Chocolate Sichuan Peppercorn Tart

We like to call the Dark Choco Sichuan Peppercorn Tart ($9) the Mala tart. You get strong hints of Mala first before experiencing the rich, dark chocolate taste. If you find the dessert getting too overwhelming for you, pair it with the dalgona honeycomb topped on top of the tart.

They made the honeycomb to be less sweet, but it helps to relieve the mala-sensation from the dessert. A very interesting take on a chocolate tart!

Signature Drinks at COTTA

There are 4 different Signature drinks at COTTA and we tried 3 of them. The one that we missed out on was the Military Latte ($8) – a drink made from matcha, cocoa, and espresso.

Coconut Charcoal Einspanner

The Coconut Charcoal Einspanner ($8) is a cup of cold brew topped with coconut cream and sprinkled with charcoal powder. You can choose to either mix it or just drink it like it’s served.

We loved how well the sweetness of the coconut cream paired with the fragrant cold brew coffee.

Orange Osmanthus Cloud

The Orange Osmanthus Cloud ($8) is made using an orange-based tea topped with an Osmanthus cream foam. When served to you, the slice of orange is torched right in front of you.

We found this to slightly be on the sweeter side and would have loved it to have more pronounced floral Osmanthus notes.

The Cotta

The last drink is The Cotta ($9) which is something like a latte topped with pistachio cream. First thing we realized was how the cream foam felt heavier and creamier compared to the previous 2 drinks.

The pistachio flavour was intense and nutty, which went well with the coffee surprisingly. The owners shared with us that they initially had an idea to do a pistachio crust along the rims of the glass, but not everybody will appreciate the textures.

We loved this drink, but personally, the pistachio cream on top of cold brew would probably be even more delicious and less heavy overall.

New Spot in Tanjong Pagar for Desserts

If you’re ever in the area slurping up some jjajangmyeon or Korean bbq, COTTA would make a great spot for some dessert before heading home.
