Cafe Usagi TOKYO: Japanese Cafe Serving Freshly Made Daifuku Mochi And Mochi Waffles In Suntec City

Located along the stretch of Suntec City is Cafe Usagi TOKYO, a Japanese dessert cafe specialising in tea and handmade desserts!

Calm And Cosy Space

This is their second outlet in Singapore following the first space at 111 Somerset.

The cafe is located along a busy walkway but still retains a kind of cosiness with light, all-wooden furniture.

Usagi means rabbit in Japanese, and the cafe space is full of rabbit motifs! The front of the store showcases their selection of ice creams and coffee.

Cafe Usagi TOKYO Menu

The menu is the brainchild of Chef Yuka Shigeno, consisting of Japanese teas, coffee, waffles, and handcrafted ice cream.

You can enjoy Japanese teas starting from $7.80, like a Lavender Hojicha Pot ($7.90) and Ice Uji Matcha Latte ($6.80).

Their desserts include the Original Waffles with Kuromitsu Syrup ($6.50), Cream Dorayaki ($7.90) and a selection of handmade ice creams (from $5) in flavours like Rich Chocolate, Matcha and Lavender Hojicha.

Mochi Waffles with Kuromitsu Syrup

For the ultimate dessert, get the Mochi Waffles with Kuromitsu Syrup ($8.50) which comes with a slab of mochi in the batter.

The crispy exterior was crisp but had a pleasant fluffy interior, combined with the slightly chewy mochi!

The syrup added just the right amount of sweetness which would pair great with a cup of tea.

Mochi Ice Cream

The Mochi Ice Cream ($6 onwards) features a scoop of ice cream in your chosen flavour wrapped with a layer of handmade mochi.

We got to try their crowd’s favourite flavour Ceremonial Uji Matcha!

The skin was soft but retained a good bite, pairing perfectly with the fragrant and slightly sweet Matcha ice cream.

Handmade Daifuku Fruit Mochi

One of our favourite bites was the Handmade Daifuku Fruit Mochi ($6.90). The fruit rotates with the season, and we got to try the Strawberry Daifuku.

The combination of sweet strawberry, red bean paste and mochi skin was a winner for us and a must-try!

Mochi Dorayaki

A staple Japanese dessert is dorayaki, and Cafe Usagi’s iteration includes the Mochi Dorayaki ($6.90).

The mochi is sandwiched between two sweet pancakes and red bean paste. The pancakes were just the right amount of sweetness, complimenting its fillings.

Strawberry Yuzu Dorayaki Cake

A more grand version is the Strawberry Yuzu Dorayaki Cake ($9.90), featuring a generous filling of yuzu whipped cream and strawberry slices.

We liked how the slight tang and citrusy flavour of the yuzu cut through the sweetness!

Japanese Flavoured Handcrafted Ice Cream

There’s also a selection of handcrafted ice creams starting at $5 per scoop. We tried the Hokkaido Milk and Vanilla, speckled with real vanilla beans.

The ice cream wasn’t too sweet and had a great vanilla flavour.

All their ice creams are made with Hokkaido milk and fresh ingredients, so you can enjoy a more premium experience.

Cafe Usagi Rabbit Bread

For a cute take-home snack, get their Cafe Usagi Rabbit Bread ($8.80 per loaf) that’s only available in limited quantities daily.

There are three flavours: Matcha with Hokkaido Azuki Red Bean and Mochi, Hokkaido Chocolate Chip and Milk White.

Ice Hojicha Latte

We tried the Iced Hojicha Latte ($6.80). Each drink is made fresh to order in the traditional method with a Japanese tea whisk.

The drink came unsweetened, which highlighted the smokiness and richness of the Hojicha.

If you’re someone who enjoys drinks without sugar, this latte is perfect for you!
