Cafe Coco Celebrates National Day With Items Like Pandan Custard Choux Puff and Orh Nee Latte

You’ve probably heard of Café Coco before, with their Lavender brunch being a hit last year. They’re back with a National Day series to celebrate Singapore’s birthday with items like locally inspired Choux puffs and brews.

National Day Inspired Choux Puffs by Café Coco

National Day Choux Puffs and Brews from Cafe Coco

The brown butter choux puffs come in a box of 6 ($28) containing different flavours. Cafe Coco recommends consuming them on the day you receive them, but they can be refrigerated for up to 2 days.

Pandan Custard, Orh Nee and Gula Melaka Choux Puffs

This National Day launch has locally inspired flavours such as:

The pandan custard choux puff is filled with a generous pandan custard filling that has an alluring pandan aroma. The filling combines a rich pandan flavour with hints of coconut and vanilla.

Orh Nee, or yam paste, is a popular dessert in Singapore. Cafe Coco’s choux puff version contains real yam paste, resulting in a thick and delicious rendition. We loved the coconut flakes that were sprinkled on top as well.

At first glance, the gula melaka choux puffs look like its paying tribute to tutu kueh. The filling is packed with sweet gula melaka cream that combines both the best of smoked palm sugar and deep caramel.

Strawberry Jam Choux Puff

Something new is also the strawberry jam choux puff (previously it was strawberry basil).

If you don’t like jelak stuff, this flavour is perfect for you. It’s refreshing, tart and has bright flavours of strawberry.

The box of 6 choux puffs also comes with the Original Vanilla Custard and Hazelnut Ganache Puffs that was in their previous choux puff launch.

Singapore Inspired Bottled Brews

Gula Melaka Latte

The gula melaka latte tasted like any other brew within the sip. However, slowly we began to taste the subtle smokey gula melaka aftertaste which was quite addictive. Maybe because of the presence of gula melaka, we found this slightly on the sweeter side.

Teochew Orh Nee Latte

The Orh Nee Latte is a non-caffeinated drink that combines the best of both yam and coconut together. Coming in a beautiful pastel purple, we loved how the drink isn’t too milky and had a strong yam and coconut taste.

We recommend serving this with ice.

Pandan Ceylon Tea Latte

Replacing last year’s Milo Mocha is the Pandan Ceylon Tea Latte. Pandan leaves are cold steeped for 12 hours and then combined with a full-bodied, citrusy Ceylon tea.

The pandan fragrance is very apparent upon opening the bottle, but upon the first sip, there isn’t much pandan taste. It did remind us a bit of the milk teas you have in Hong Kong Cha Chaan Tengs!

The COCObox of 5 brews also contains a Smooth Black Americano and Creamy White Latte.
