Cold Storage Partners With CRUST Group To Produce Beer Made From Leftover Loaves

Named Born & Bread, CS Fresh & Cold Storage have recently introduced their very own beer made from surplus bread from their stores!

With food waste being one of the biggest waste contributors in Singapore, CS Fresh and Cold Storage’s new collaboration with CRUST group aims to reduce food waste across stores.

The excess loaves that are close to expiration are collected and sent to the team at CRUST. The bread is first mashed together with water and melted barley before undergoing a process that involves separating the liquids from residual grains. Then, this liquid product is boiled with hops and more collected bread before it is cooled and fermented, and sealed into cans.

Born & Bread is a light and refreshing beer, with crisp notes of malt and cereal. It is a Pilsner-style beer that’s easy to drink and will go with almost any kind of cuisine!

In the future, you might even spot a wider range from their upcycled beer range as they are planning on using different breads and styles. On top of that, CS Fresh and Cold Storage are also looking to create soft drinks from surplus fruits and vegetables with CRUST.

Born & Bread beer is now available at selected Cold Storage and CS Fresh locations.
