Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice Opens New Outlet At VivoCity

Well-loved Hainanese curry rice store Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice has opened its first standalone mall outlet in VivoCity! With over 90 years of history, the eatery is now run by the 4th generation and they are offering the same classic curry rice recipes in a new location.

Comfortable But Familiar Interior

The eatery is housed in a nostalgic old-school space complete with a vintage store sign. When you first walk-in, you’re greeted by the same clear glass display where you can watch your food being prepared alongside all the delicious options. There you can catch the familiar clip-clip sound of the scissors being used to cut up your food into bite-sized pieces!

The interior design was made to emulate the first Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice outlet with vintage wall-tiles, wooden stools and posters around the eating space showing more of its history.

Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice Menu

The menu remains largely the same as other outlets, but they have a VivoCity exclusive which is a Sharing Set ($16.80) for two people. The set comes with a generous serving of pork chop, chicken chop, braised pork belly and curry chicken, plus two fried eggs – perfect for a hearty lunch with friends!

We got the Set D Signature Curry Rice ($8.50) that comes with a crunchy fried pork chop, chicken chop, eggs, vegetables and their famous secret Original Curry Sauce and Original Braised Pork Sauce. The order came drenched in the famous fragrant, thick and rich curry that pairs perfectly with the white rice. The chicken and pork cutlets had a good crunch and flavour, which was made even better with the addition of the curry.

We added on a serving of their Braised Pork Belly ($3 for add-on, $6 for a la carte), which you can also get in the Set B ($5.80) that comes with the pork belly as the main protein. The pork belly was tender and well-seasoned, with a deep flavour of soy sauce infused into the meat! If you don’t fancy meat, you can also get a variety of other toppings like Sambal Sotong, Braised Tofu, green beans, fish cake and more.

They also have a Soup Of The Day ($4.50) and we got to try the Lau Huang Gua (Old Cucumber) With Pork Ribs. Served piping hot in an old-school metal bowl, the soup was robust with sweetness from the pork, but light enough as a palate cleanser between bites of the rich curry rice.

They also offer the usual set meals like Set A ($5.80) with a choice of either pork or chicken chop and Traditional Set ($8.50) that comes with pork chop and braised pork belly for your choosing.
