Akira Back: Refreshed Menu Japanese Restaurant In JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach

Tucked away in the airy basement of JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach is Akira Back, a Japanese restaurant offering innovative takes on classic dishes with a distinct Korean twist.

New Items On Akira Back Menu

They have welcomed new a la carte menu items, but you can find their full menu here.

 Scallops on Half Shell

While the restaurant focuses on Japanese cuisine, Chef Akira Back is Korean! You can see this inspiration in new appetisers like Scallops on Half Shell ($36) with gochujang butter and aged kimchi.

The plump, sweet scallops paired well with the spicy umami kimchi!

The Crispy Cauliflower ($25) is tossed in a gochujang glaze for a meat-free version of Korean fried chicken that’s equally addictive.

A highlight is the Live Lobster ($130), served with style in a decorated box and smoke.

The lobster is topped with mentaiko sauce and jalapenos, providing a strong spicy kick to cut through the rich and sweet meat.

Another addition is the High Roller ($56), a sushi roll wrapped in flame-seared A5 Kushu Chuck Rib and topped with caviar!

The tender, buttery beef was complemented by the mix of vegetables and subtle kick of ssamjang.

Bonus: Premium Regular Menu

A fun mainstay item is the Pop Rockin ($28), a crab meat roll topped with popping candy. It’s a nod to Chef Akira’s childhood memories, where his mother had to persuade him to eat his food by using candy.

We also recommend getting the Striped Jack Tiradito ($34) and Mediterranean Seabass ($36), both served with flavourful sauces.

The saffron beurre blanc on the seabass was rich and fragrant, complementing the fine, sweet meat.

The Chef’s Special Claypot Rice (market price) presents seasonal fish over rice. We got grilled seabass with green onion and ikura, creating a satisfying bite.

Another dish that surprised us was dessert: Corn Semifreddo ($22) served in the likeness of corn! This had a mascarpone corn semifreddo and coconut ice cream.

While it didn’t taste strongly of corn to us, we enjoyed the mix of textures from the crunchy corn chocolate.

Japanese Restaurant In Esplanade

With a classy ambience, attentive service and premium menu offerings, Akira Back is worth the visit whether you’re a guest at JW Marriot Hotel Singapore South Beach or not!
