82 Own by PlusEightTwo: Korean Street Food And Bingsu Located At The Cathay

K-pop fans would be familiar with +82 PlusEightTwo cafe over at Rendevous Hotel, which was previously crowned as a cafe opened by BTOB’s Eunkwang. Well, the brand which houses 82 Bunsik as well, has opened a new Korean café over at The Cathay in Dhoby Ghaut called 82 Own.

Why 82 Own?

82 Own at The Cathay

If you’re wondering why they’re called 82 Own, it’s because this cafe will be used to launch new menu items from the 82 Brand of cafes. It will be their own place to test new food/drinks before launching it at the other locations.

82 Own has menu items from 82 Bunsik, such as Korean street food and the popular Korean corndogs. (Start-Up vibes anyone?)

They also brought the Bingsu menu from PlusEightTwo cafe over to 82 Own.

82 Own is filled with white and rattan chairs that are reminiscent of some popular cafes over in Korea. The posters on the walls are also a very Korean-cafe-ish kind of aesthetic.

Students will be happy to know that there are power plugs available so you can pop by during a long break to enjoy Korean food while getting some work done.

Korean Bingsu in Dhoby Ghaut

82 Own offers a range of Korean shaved ice desserts such as the classic Injeolmi Bingsu ($15) and Oreo Bingsu ($15).

They also have a more unique menu item called the Macaron Bingsu ($18) here as well as fruit-based Bingsu such as Strawberry, Mango and Melon. ($18)

The Strawberry and Mango flavours may become seasonal menu items as they are made using seasonal fruits. However, the Melon Bingsu is a permanent menu item.

Macaron Bingsu

The Macaron Bingsu is basically a pile of shaved ice topped with crushed pieces of Macarons. It is also served with a side of condensed milk.

The shaved ice at 82 Own had a perfect texture, fine and fluffy – worlds apart from your local Ice Kachang. The ice itself has no flavour, so drizzling some of the condensed milk over is highly recommended.

The macaron toppings were good as well. They were slightly on the sweeter side, but no issues since you can pair them with the shaved ice. Some of the macaron flavours we tasted were coffee, berry and lemon.

Depending on the macaron you eat, the Bingsu changes in flavour with every bite!

Melon Bingsu

Visually, the Melon Bingsu looks amazing – shaved ice topped with tiny scoops of melon inside half a melon. The melon itself is fresh, juicy and sweet. (They use Australian melons)

Portion-wise, we would say it’s good for 2 to 3 pax. You can even scrape the sides of the melon on the inside!

For now, you can still get the Strawberry and Mango Bingsu before they become seasonal menu items. So, go grab it while it’s still on the menu! Do note that the Bingsu menu is only available for dine-in.

Korean Corndogs in Singapore

You can find 82 Bunsik’s menu here as well, with comforting Korean street food such as Tteokbokki, Jjajang Ramyeon and even Croffles available for purchase.

New Korean Bingsu in Singapore

Bingsu is one of those Korean desserts that make absolute sense in Singapore thanks to our scorching weather. Great to see a new place selling Bingsu right in the heart of town.

The OG +82 PlusEightTwo cafe will also be home to a new concept, 82 Place. The café transforms into a Korean casual dining pub after sunset. Spoiler, the lights will play a huge part in contributing to the mood, and you can sip on Makgeolli while you chill.
