2nd Serving: Artisan Gelato & Tea Cafe With Vending Machine Door at Holland Drive

While on our way to Waker Chicken one day, we passed by 2nd Serving, an artisan gelato & tea shop. What caught our eye was the interesting vending machine door design, which reminded us of Zapangi, a popular cafe in Seoul (sadly no longer around).

Hidden Gelato Cafe in Holland Drive

2nd Serving Gelato Counter Area

There are 4 tables inside the gelato cafe and 4 counter seats which can hold up to a total of 20pax. You can spot the different gelato flavours on display near the ordering counter.

Some interesting flavours include Eggnog and a Savoury Crunch gelato, which has ingredients like potato chips, pretzels and nestum. The flavours do change on a regular basis, and we heard from the staff that Summerberries is one of their most popular flavours.

Near the entrance of the cafe, there’s a separate chiller for their signature flavours: Matcha, Hojicha and Tie Guan Yin.

All their gelato is made at a central kitchen and then transported here.

Menu at 2nd Serving Gelato Cafe

A single scoop here costs $4.5 while a double scoop costs $8.0. A premium flavour has an additional charge of $1. For waffles, they are priced at $6. There’s also a seasonal waffle, which was a Chocolate Brownie during our time of visit, priced at $7.5.

2nd Serving also has an extensive menu of teas, ranging from non-caffeinated ones to green teas, oolong, and black teas. For hot teas, they come in a pot and can be refilled one time.

Waffle with Black Sesame and Tie Guan Yin Gelato

We opted for a waffle with 2 scoops of gelato: black sesame and tie guan yin.

The waffle had a crispy exterior and was served with a side of chocolate sauce. We liked how they didn’t just drizzle it over which could’ve interfered with the gelato flavours.

Gelato-wise, the Black Sesame flavoured one had a mix of black and white sesame seeds inside, which added a kick of nuttiness when bitten into. We felt the intensity of the black sesame could’ve been deeper, as the flavour was nutty which could’ve been mistaken for peanut.

The Tie Guan Yin gelato was our favourite, with a mellow tea fragrance that grows on you with each bite. We loved how it wasn’t overly sweet and was refreshing. Our only concern was pairing it with the waffles since the waffle kind of covered the delicate taste of the gelato. Would recommend having this on its own for the best experience.

Lady Yang Cold Brew

We went for the Lady Yang Cold Brew ($7) which is a drink inspired by Yang Guifei, consisting of biluochun, lychee and rose petals.

There was a subtle fragrance of lychee from the tea, and it added a nice fruitiness to the tea but doesn’t overpower it in any way.

Vending Machine Door Cafe in Singapore

While the dream is for the cafe to be completely hidden behind the vending machine door for a more dramatic effect, we understand how it might not be possible in Singapore.

However, the place will still make a nice spot for desserts for those nearby.
