Korea is known for its amazing cafes. A short distance away from bustling Hongdae is Perception Coffee which is situated in the Hapjeong/Sangsu neighbourhood. The café is known for its beautiful ceiling interior that draws you in the more you look at it.
Perception Coffee in Seoul
Opened back in the Spring of 2019, Perception Coffee has attracted a lot of attention, which led them to be invited to several design awards. From the outside, the cafe seems normal, but once you step in, you’ll experience a totally different atmosphere.
The scent of coffee, the chill jazz music, and the interior all come together to create a cozy space for you to take a breather.

Perception Coffee offers a range of coffee options for the caffeine lover. They have Flannel Drip and Chemex Drip, as well as a whole menu of espresso-based drinks.
You can find the usual drinks such as Americano, Cappuccino, and Latte. However, if you’re visiting Perception Coffee in the future, do take some time to try out their signature espresso menu.
- 그 곳의 분의기 ‘Atmosphere of the Place’
A feeling of warmth and coziness that is brought out by the smooth and deep savoury flavour of a Flat White.
This was the drink we went for. While we opted for the iced version, the coffee had a nice nutty flavour and wasn’t too acidic.
- 그 날의 온도 ‘Temperature in the Day’
While the first sip introduces the slight bitterness of the coffee, you will be to experience an addictive sweetness as you keep drinking the Au Lait Glace.
- 그 때의 기억 ‘Memory of the Moment’
A blend of smooth and sweet cream with pink salt creates a sweet-salty sensation as you dig into this Einspanner.
Perception also offers other beverages such as a Black Latte, Salted Chocolate Latte, Matcha Latte as well as TWG Tea.
The cafe also offers small bites such as canelés and financiers.
Cafe with Award-Winning Interior
While you’re here, make sure you take photos of their interior, especially the ceiling. A mix of curves, bends, and wood elements that look like beautiful waves to us. The design won them the platinum A’design award 2020 in the best interior category.
How To Get To Perception Coffee
Perception Coffee is located between Hapjeong Station and Sangsu Station. Both stations are within walking distance.
If you’re alighting at Hapjeong Station (Line 2/6), you can take exit 7. For those alighting at Sangsu Station (Line 6), you can take exit 4.
