Fun Things to Do in Singapore using Airbnb Experiences

When it comes to travelling, Airbnb is one of the first few websites we turn to. But let’s bring things to a local context. Did you know that there are fun things to do in Singapore available on Airbnb as well? Airbnb Experiences features a wide range of activities, from handicraft workshops to different cultural experiences right here in Singapore.

Make Your Own Mini Ceramic Pots

Hosted by Alan, who ventured into pottery as a hobby, is now the owner of Terra & Ember, a humble ceramic studio located in a 110-year-old temple along Geylang Road, which is where he stays.

Terra & Ember also strives to be the leading provider in mobile pottery workshops as they believe that pottery is not confined within the spaces of a conventional studio.

The 2.5-hour experience will consist of a 15 min demonstration on how to throw and decorate the mini pots. Afterwards, participants can spend the remaining time making as many mini pots as possible, with Alan facilitating and guiding anyone who needs help.

As the pots need to be fired, the final product can either be self-collected or delivered via postage after 4 weeks.

Are you a fan of Korean food and culture? You can now learn how to make your own kimchi right here in Singapore.

An integral part of each meal for his family, Eric learned how to make kimchi as a kid from his mom and grandma. This 1.5-hour experience will see you through the basic steps such as chopping, seasoning and tasting.

At the end of the experience, you’ll be served some refreshments and light bites (think bite-sized portions of pork belly and galbi) to try with your handmade kimchi before packing it and bringing it home.

During this experience, you’ll learn how to design and construct your ring from scratch. This includes different techniques such as sawing, soldering and polishing.

Not exactly something you would expect when we talk about fun things to do in Singapore, however, it is a meaningful and insightful dive into a part of Singapore that’s slowly fading away.

Currently, the last surviving Taoist deity shop in Singapore, Say Tian Hng Buddha Shop has been around since 1896. The shop has made, sold and repaired Taoist idols for more than 123 years.

Grandma Chwee Lian is the owner of the shop, but grandsons Yong and Chong will be the guides, explaining and giving you a historical and cultural approach to the craft. Participants will also get to learn the stories of several deities and may even get to try your hand at effigy-making.

If your knowledge of Greek food is only limited to items such as Greek yoghurt, this Airbnb Experience is made for you. Expand your Greek food knowledge with Alberto, an executive chef of a Greek restaurant in Singapore.

Using only fresh Greek seasonal ingredients, you will get to cook a four-course meal that includes items such as an original Greek salad, hand-made cheese pies or a Mousaka with thin slices of eggplant and bechamel sauce.

Make a Greek yoghurt that’s topped with homemade fermented grapes.

Boring Indian Food Workshop

Probably one of the most popular Airbnb Experience in Singapore is the Boring Indian Food Workshop that’s not boring at all. With over 90 reviews and an average rating of 4.99 stars, Dhruv, a former professional chef, will teach you how to make some awesome Indian cuisine.

You’ll get to learn some basics such as slicing an onion, or even flambéing a pineapple if you’re lucky.

The best part is the menu often changes, and Dhruv contacts the participants beforehand to figure out their preferences.

If you want a rough idea of what to expect, you’ll be cooking Indian cuisines such as butter chicken, Dal Takda and different kinds of pilaf on a balcony on the 36th floor overlooking the Singapore harbour.

We often have the misconception that there are not many fun things to do in Singapore and that most of the activities here in Singapore are catered for tourists. But with Airbnb Experiences, we Singaporeans get to enjoy several activities that are commonly found overseas as well.
