Fancy an afternoon tea? Sofitel Singapore City Centre has collaborated with Warabimochi Kamakura to present a limited-time Warabimochi-themed afternoon tea menu starting 1 March 2025!
Japanese-French Fusion
The afternoon tea has 11 courses – a serving of original Warabimochi plus five savoury and five sweet – each incorporating warabimochi and its related ingredients like bracket and kinako powder. Check out the full menu here.
There are only 10 sets per day. It’s priced at $138++ for two persons and includes TWG Tea and coffee.
P.S. Accor members enjoy 30% discount on the afternoon tea, up to 6 persons. Payments made with DBS/OCBC/CITIBANK/JCB cards also enjoy 30% savings!
Savoury
Of the five savouries, the most unique was the Warabimochi Tempura topped with snow crab slaw.
The combination of the crunchy batter, soft mochi and salty crab was enjoyable but you definitely need to eat it hot.
Another interesting one is the Duck Rilette with Sakura Jelly, served in a pretty pink monaka shell. The gelatinous texture was fun and we liked the savoury duck filling.
It reminded us a bit of bazhang with a prominent taste of five spice powder.
The “Yakishabu” Beef with Black Garlic and Mangetsu Egg fell flat for us flavour-wise, though the meat was very tender.
A personal favourite was the Mushroom Duxelle on Egg Tartlet. The earthy, umami mushrooms paired well with the cured egg yolk and creamy tart base!
Sweet
The sweets stood out to us more with the combination of flavour profiles. Our favourite was the Goma Crepe Roll Cake, with a strong roasted sesame flavour and chewy crepe.
An unassuming one was the Spring Sakura entrement mousse. It had a filling of warabimochi mousse and light raspberry cream, making it quite appetising.
Despite its generous topping of sweet potato, we wished more from the Sweet Potato Orange Flan Chestnut Tartlet. It reminded us of orh nee but could do with a bit more sweetness.
The Hojicha Pandan Financier was dense and cake-like with a pleasant fragrance and added tang from granny smith apple cube.
The Salted Peanut Chocolate Warabimochi Tart was also a treat, with rich chocolate mousse and a chewy chocolate warabimochi. It wasn’t too sweet or bitter which we appreciated.
Warabimochi-Themed Afternoon Tea
Overall, we think the Warabimochi Kamakura and Sofitel afternoon tea presented a refreshing twist on the usual warabimochi! It’s a novel way to enjoy teatime with friends.
