We Tried Some Rice Cooker Recipes That We Found Online

Long before putting KFC fried chicken into rice cookers became a thing, there were already hundreds, if not, thousands of rice cooker recipes floating around the internet. Using only a rice cooker, you can easily make anything you want nowadays. From cheesecakes to fried rice, if you can name it, you can probably make it.

We searched the internet and decided to test out some of the more interesting recipes.

Rice Cooker Cheesecake

It’s pretty common to see no-bake cheesecake recipes online, but a rice cooker cheesecake? Now we’re talking.

We made the cheesecake following this video.

Ingredients to make Cheesecake using a rice cooker

Ingredients you will need:

We’ve listed out the steps for this recipe if you want to try it:

  1. Place biscuits into a Ziplock bag and crush until a breadcrumb consistency is formed
  2. Take 300g of cream cheese and mix with 8 tablespoons of sugar
  3. To the cream cheese/sugar mixture, add in the yoghurt
  4. Add 200g of whipping cream to the mixture and continue to mix
  5. Continue to mix, and add 3 eggs to the mixture
  6. Sieve 4 spoons of starch to the cheesecake mixture
  7. Add 70g of butter to the crushed biscuits (If the Butter is cold and doesn’t mix well with the biscuits, place it in the microwave for 10 seconds)
  8. Grease the interior of the rice cooker bowl with a thin layer of butter
  9. Place and press the crushed biscuits mixture onto the base of the rice cooker bowl
  10. Lastly, add the cheesecake mixture into the rice cooker bowl
  11. Find a setting that can heat the bowl for 70mins on your rice cooker (If you can’t find one, you would have to press the cook button 2-3 times)
we managed to salvage a piece of decent looking rice cooker cheesecake

The taste for the cheesecake wasn’t that bad. Texture-wise, it did remind us of an egg tart. Fair warning: we used a larger and older version rice cooker, which may be the reason why the cheesecake looked nothing like the one in the video.

The rice cooker in the video had a setting that allowed them to choose the temperature along with a timer. Our rice cooker only has two settings – warm or cook.

Tip: Use a smaller and more advanced rice cooker for this recipe. Avoid using a large rice cooker because it was difficult to transfer the cheesecake out. We failed and had to salvage the remaining pieces off the table. Taste-wise, it’s not bad. Worth a shot.

Rice Cooker Pancakes

This is the ultimate lazy recipe because how hard is it to flip some pancakes? Well, we were intrigued because the pancake was said to look like a Japanese souffle cake. So, we gave this recipe a shot.

Ingredients you will need:

Whisk the eggs and milk together until completely blended and add in the remaining ingredients and mix until only small lumps remain.

Grease the interior of the rice cooker and pour the mixture in, cooking it for 45 minutes.

We learned from our mistakes and used a smaller rice cooker this time round. Our aim was a 3-stack pancake drizzled with honey and peaches.

the end product looks decent

We managed to get the look, but taste-wise, it was dense and tasted like flour. Now we know why people queue and pay for amazing Japanese pancakes.

However, if we had followed the recipe and cooked it in a large rice cooker, the result may not have been so bad. Maybe we should try it again?

Legit Rice Cooker Recipes

When it comes to rice cooker recipes that we think are worth a shot, Leslie Koh comes to mind.

You may have come across some of his rice cooker recipes that he shared previously on Facebook, with the recent Egg Fried Rice recipe being a hit worldwide. It was also reported on several well-known media websites.

A quick scroll through his Facebook profile and we saw many who tried his recipes saying it was a success. One of the reasons Leslie started posting these rice cooker recipes is because he found that most of his clients didn’t have time to cook. A rice cooker recipe makes a homecooked meal easier, which promotes family bonding.
