The Amook by Samjin Amook: Korean Fish Cake Takeaway Kiosk in ION Orchard For A Taste of Busan

Taking over the previous Samjin Amook outlet in ION Orchard is The Amook, a brand new concept by Samjin Amook. If you don’t already know, amook (어묵) is a popular Korean street dish made using ground or minced fish. Fishcake fans can now easily get it from ION Orchard at their new takeaway outlet.

The Amook ION Orchard

The Amook ION Orchard Exterior

Located on Basement 4 of ION Orchard is The Amook, clad in a bright white and royal blue interior. The branding looks younger and hip, unlike the usual Samjin Amook stores.

The Amook is managed by their Korean headquarters which means you get an authentic fishcake experience. All the fishcakes, ingredients and even the soup broth is imported from Korea!

The Amook Menu

Compared to the usual Samjin Amook outlets, The Amook moves away from the large selection of fishcakes and offers a more scaled-down menu.

Here’s what we tried:

Original Amook Soup & Skewer Amook Soup

The most representative menu items are definitely the skewered fishcakes. You can choose from the Original Amook Soup ($2) which is basically a squared piece of fishcake folded, or the Skewer Amook Soup ($2.30) which comes with various other fishcakes.

We don’t know about you, but the broth is really important to us when it comes to Korean fishcakes. The soup here reminds us of Korean winter days spent at street food carts. Comforting and refreshing.

Tteokbokki Amook

The Tteokbokki Amook ($3.50) is basically a cup of Korean spicy rice cakes with slices of fishcake. The rice cake is chewy and soft, with a nice springy texture. The best part was the tteokbokki sauce which had a nice refreshing, spicy kick.

In the future, they might adjust the spiciness according to customers’ preference, but honestly, we have no problems with how it is right now.

Noodle Tteokbokki Amook

Basically, a version of the Tteokbokki Amook but with noodles ($3.50). While one might not feel attracted to this menu item at first, this was one of our favourite items.

The noodles are made using the same flour as your rice cakes, which resulted in a delicious, springy texture. Every single bite screams QQ.

Sweet Potato Cheese Stick Amook

If you’re a fan of sweet potato and cheese, make sure to try their Sweet Potato Cheese Stick Amook ($3). Inside the fishcake is a smooth sweet potato filling along with some melted cheese.

The saltiness of the cheese isn’t too overwhelming and pairs really well with the delicate sweetness of the sweet potato.

Authentic Korean Fishcake in Singapore

You can now relieve some of your Busan travel moments over at The Amook. The new Korean fishcake store in ION Orchard is one of the best ways to get an authentic Korean street food experience right here in Singapore.

Hopefully, in the future, they will sell the skewered fishcakes in the tteokbokki sauce!

Opening Promotion

From now until the 20th of Mar, with any purchase of fishcake or tteokbokki, you will receive a free cup of Mini Amook Ball worth $3.50. Whilst stocks last.
